the big question now is whether Narumi and the new guy can be ready as a pair skaters for Sochi. I also hope that Mervin soon finds a new partner.

i really look forward to seeing them as a pair, and hope they will be just as stunning as TT were, the first time i saw them.

Yep, it would seem the split was due to citizenship issues so that Narumi can go to Oly. The question, though, is if it was all Narumi's or was the Japanese fed involved. There is a team event in the Oly and if Narumi and Mervin can't skate for Japan, they have no other entry. They were able to find a pairs guy for her quite fast. I hope Mervin will be able to find a pair soon and I hope Narumi's partnership with this Ryuichi Kihara will be good if not better than her partnership with Mervin.

some other news
actually I saw ppl guessing Ryuichi is the best choice since he is only 1cm shorter than Marvin.
Then he got nice but not great among JPN guys...
at least we don't' need to worry about his triple jumps or 3-2 combination in program.

not only that, Ryuichi also got IMG agency contract...sounds like JSF got him a lot of good deals.

I think that's just about the only way to get a guy to transfer from singles to pairs in Jpn.
But I'm very much relieved Kihara was man enough to take this deal. He's been in the same 12th place in Jpn Nats for the past 3 years, and does not seem to have a quad, so I assume he decided that a new challenge in pairs may lead him to accomplish something more. He has to build his body and stamina more to become a good pair skater obviously, but he's taller than most of the other guys in Jpn so he may have a good chance in making history in the future. Smile

Btw, Narumi has skated pairs with him once 2yrs ago in a pairs experiencing event. That seems to be the main reason Narumi herself requested Kihara to be her new partner. So Narumi must think he has some potential. Yep!

Here's his SP in Nats this season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpnPep-ENhg

But I'll always miss Mervin. Crying or Very sad
I sincerely hope he'll find a new partner asap, and I'll go on cheering for him no matter what country he'll skate for in the future. Cheering

Yep, it would seem the split was due to citizenship issues so that Narumi can go to Oly. The question, though, is if it was all Narumi's or was the Japanese fed involved. I'm willing to bet that a very strong incentive came from the Fed.
I just wish she'd done this to Mervin at the beginning of the season, or at least in a nicer way (if that's possible). The poor guy really didn't see this coming. No Disappointed

I feel the same way as you zarinaballerina ...
I only want to be happy for her getting her new partner, but I don't think I can be so until when Marvin gets his partner. I may be wrong but it seems he didn't know what's happening while he was waiting for her to recover. He is the last person who deserve to be treated like that way. I really hope he will find a partner soon and will enjoy working hard again towards Sochi.

There's a hint of bitterness on Mervin's tweets when that split was announced. It really looked like he didn't expect that to happen and was caught out of the blue like the rest of us. It wasn't a mutual decision.

While I'm happy Narumi has found a partner I'm sad that somebody was left out in the cold or so it looked to me. I hope Mervin will find a partner soon and continue skating. And I hope Narumi's partnership with Kihara will be a good one.

Yes, it is very sad and, to be honest and it may sound ugly, I cannot celebrate her happy news at all when I know her and the fed motivation to treat a skater in such a disrespectful manner.

I also feel very sorry for Mervin.
While we won't know exactly how things happened, I suspect that the fed and Narumi already had Kihara in mind before making an acouncement to Mervin. They shouldn't forget that if Narumi medalled at worlds and became famous , etc, it's partly thanks to Mervin.
All the best to Mervin.

I feel the same. I want to be happy for her and wish her success in the future, but it's so hard to feel positive about her, when you see how she treated Mervin. Sad, Lonely

That's great for Mervin, hopefully it'll work out.

Just a question, since Narumi just recently paired up with the new guy, I doubt they'll be ready for WTT, can Japan compete there without a pair entry?

I am so happy to hear this...because he was dumped surprisingly and he deserves a new and good partner.

Apparently FSU and Mervin (via twitter) have confirmed that his new partner really is Natashi Purish. I hope the best for both of them. Though he is quite a few years older than her.

That's not that young. It's far better than 13 year difference between Hao Zhang and his baby (15 years old) partner. Now that really looked weird.

Or the continuous insistence of US pairs to skate with someone at least ten years younger than the guy. And they wondered why our pairs broke up so much... how can a 14-year-old skate with a 27-year-old? Just such a huge difference in maturity - they'd get sick of each other!

news Smile I can't read France but they looks cute

Mervin thinks he can keep skating 'til 2018 or even 2022, but is aiming for that 3rd spot on the Canadian team for Sochi, even though it will be difficult. Apparently, Natasha is even smaller than Narumi and he sees a lot of potential in this new partnership.

He again confirms that it was Narumi's decision to end their partnership and that he had been ready to sign everything in order to represent Japan, even though the case was complicated because he didn't speak the language and trained in Montreal. He says the JSF was always very supportive of him and his partnership with Narumi.

chiyori , thank you so much and google did a fair job to this but can't compare with you cheers
i think this pair can have better chance than narumi's for now because both of them have experience and Natasha looks cute (okay...i like cute girl LOL)
I think he was happy to find new partner and got back to training. it was so sad that he spent 5 years building up relationship then he needs to start over everything.
