Thanx for the links!

Holy cow, ISU is streaming the juniors this year! cheers  Last year, tere were only videos available. How I wish they'd done the same with the seniors. Sadly not possible.  Depressed Crying  I really hope Eurosport will broadcast the GP this year. I know they bought rights from 2015-2017, but nothing was said about this season.  pale

@silenceisgolden, I'm with you. I also miss Mao. I hope she'll be at Carnival on Ice (the exhibiton part of Japan Open).

And here's her FS:

(I don't think I liked her that much last season, but I'm liked her a lot better now!)

I really like her LP this year. I just wish she wouldn't use "Tano" arms at every freaking jump. I get that it brings her better GOE, and it's a wow affect because it's harder to do, however after so many repetitions of tano, it get's annoying, at least to me.

I also like Da Bin Choi. I hope she'll find her own style as she grows, and won't turn out to be like so many other korean skaters, who imitate Yuna so much, you get a feeling like you're watching Yuna herself, with lower level of technique.

Serafima Sakhanovich is competing at this weeks GP in Ljubljana. It'll be interesting to see how she'll do compare to Medvedeva.

JGP Ljublijana starting order. (notable skaters: Leah Keiser is 2nd, Alsu Kayumova 7th, Yuka Nagai 15th, Serafima Sakhanovich 20th, and Mai Mihara 22nd. This looks like a great event! I've also heard that Finland and South Korea's entries are good)

Very Happy

Yes, she's right. Our capital city is really beautiful. Mayor of Ljubljana has done a wonderful job over the past 9 years. Sadly, the same can't be said for my hometown (the second largest Slovenian city) Maribor. Sad  We've had idiots for our mayors for years, and the government isn't too generous when it comes to funding either. However, even Slovenians are surprised how nice and warm citizenz of Maribor are, so take that Ljubljana. Razz  Needless to say, Maribor and Ljubljana have hated each other guts for decades. Don't even know the reason.

She did pronounce Ljubljana wrong though, which isn't surprising, since majority of foreigners have difficulties pronouncing it. It's not pronounced Loo-bli-ana, but Liu-bli-ana, or Lyubliana (like in russian word Lyubov).

It's sad though, to see how low the attendance is. Hopefully, this will change over the weekend, but Slovenia isn't a figure skating nation. We're a skiing, ice hockey and footbal (it's crazy how obsessed Slovenia is with footbal) nation.

And the judging here is really weird. Some got very generous scores, some got really hammered by the judges.Whirly How Sima Sakhanovich got 66+ points is beyond me. She is great don't get me wrong, but those landings are ugly as hell and her SS aren't great either. IMO, of course.

Yep. Very Happy

Sima was good. This SP suits her, however her skating didn't deserve that score. If she hadn't received a time violation, she would've scored a point higher, 67+. I'm sorry but that skate wasn't worth that. IMO, she shouldn' have scored higher than 62-63.

About Mariko Kihara:

Mariko was born in 1997. She mastered 5 types of triples at around 12. She used to be viewed as rival to Satoko Miyahara (they train under the same coach and at the same rink). When 13, Mariko was diagnosed with SCFE and had to undergo surgery. It wasn't for sure if she could keep on skating after the surgery with her thigh bone. But she finally recovers and came back to skating last year. She placed 4th at Jpn Junior Nationals and 8th at Jpn Nationals.

Congratulation to Higuchi winning the FS

1 Wakaba HIGUCHI JPN 116.93 67.29 49.64 6.57 5.93 6.32 6.07 6.14 0.00 #25
LP Piano Concerto in F by George Gershwin; choreo by Nanami Abe and Noriko Sato
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qcJzQoFXZVI

I wasn't impressed by Wakaba's FS performance when she won Jr ladies at Asian Open Trophy about 1 month ago. She botched 2 jumps at that time but still won. However with this performance at her 1st JGP competition, she has shown A LOT of improvement within a month. It seems she's devoted much to her expression while skating, which is usually lacking in younger Jpn skaters.

I also have an interesting side story about Wakaba to share: during AO Trophy, just before the medal ceremony of Jr ladies, I saw skaters from Jpn team sitting together, relaxing and having fun with one another...except for Wakaba. Wakaba was sitting by herself, crying. I couldn't figure out why she was crying as she has just won the competition. Later on I read in her twitter that she was probably pissed about herself for not skating clean, as she vowed for 'no-miss' performances during the competition.

I think Wakaba, Marin (Honda), and Yuna (Aoki) will form an interesting group for Jpn Jr ladies next year when they'll all be eligible for JGP.

I saw Wakaba live in Ostrava and she was absolutely amazing!
She simply blew the field away in the free including Medvedeva who was very good.

Her skating skills and jumps were so incredible, I couldn't get her performance out of my head the whole day.

Really a WOW moment. I don't remember being this impressed by a junior skater before (from those I saw live).
Hoping she survives puberty and manages to keep her skills because she really is something.
To use her edges like that at the age of 13...what can I say.

THIS. I've only just seen her FS, and through the entire program I kept telling myself; I can't believe she's only 13. Shocked Simply amazing. And her TES... affraid 67 points, that's a senior worthy performance (from technical aspect). With an improved PCS, which will come with time, she's the future, if only she'll survive the puberty. pale

I would give her a higher PCS though, I'm no expert, but like you said, her edges are incredible. If she were a russian wonder baby, this program would score well beyond 120, IMO.

COHK,
Thank you for sharing Mariko's background and  an episode about Wakaba at Asian Open Trophy.
They must have really gatsy personality, both of them  Yep!

And thank you for the report about Wakaba in Ostrava, kawaiimao!
You are so lucky to be able to watch competition live again this season  Happy dance
Maybe you have a plan to visit  Barcelona in December?

Before JGP starts, I wasn't expecting Japanese skaters' podium finish at all Sweatdrop
So I was pleasantly surprised at the results of the first three JGPs  Surprised

I hope we will be able to see Mao in the audience because the competition is held in Aichi!

Kaori SAKAMOTO: born on April 9, 2000, from Hyogo Prefecture, 149cm and blood type is B, belongs to Kobe FSC, certified as "JSF support athlete B"
Past record:
2014 Challenge Cup (Jr) 1st
2014 the 34th Japan junior high school figure skating competition 2nd
2013 Japan figure skating competition 15th
2013 Japan junior figure skating competition 6th
2013 East Japan junior figure skating competition 1st
2013 Asian Trophy (Jr) 1st

Yuhana YOKOI: born May 19, 2000, from Aichi Prefecture, 152cm and blood type is A, belongs to Howa Sportsland (same as Akiko)
Past record:
2014 the 34th Japan junior high school figure skating competition 4th
2013 Japan junior figure skating competition 12th
2013 East Japan junior figure skating competition 9th

She was promoted to “support athletes B” by JSF this July after she was chosen to compete in GPS.

Akiko did interview with Yuhana recently
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x25m7l5_140910-u-1

She’s a fun girl. Adorable. I really liked this part.  Very Happy

Akiko: Are there anything you think you are better than other skaters?
Yuhana: Probably it’s “I’m so into myself”.  It’s like “hey the show is starting!” (at the beginning of the performance), “Hey everyone!”, “Please join me!”
Akiko: I noticed it!  It looked you had an image in your mind as if the stage curtain is going up.

Her coach pinches her cheek and then slaps her forehead just before she takes the ice FOR GOOD LUCK.  Whirly

Russian girls are so lovely.  Love Hearts
I fell in love with Seramifa when I saw her at 2013 GPF.  I really liked her speed and edge work.  I’m happy that she’s been doing good so far. I also like Proklova.  I really liked how she skate to the music. GPS Aichi looks so exciting.  Very Happy

Actually, I am really thinking of going to Barcelona because it's "only" two and half hours flight away.
Compared to NHK last year it's basically round the corner. Smile
And since Bompard, that I was planning to attend this year again was moved to Bordeaux, everything seems to be pointing to Barcelona.
But so far, it's just an idea. All depends on my financial and work situation, as I can't afford such extravagancies all that often.clown

I'm definitely planning to be in Dresden though, since it takes less than an hour's drive from my home town and it's much more easily accessible for me than Ostrava, even though it's a different country.
So I'm very much looking forward to seeing Wakaba again, as well as all the other youngsters.

I will try to keep you posted.

By the way, congrants to all today's medalists! Encore
