PostSubject: Japanese Junior Nationals -- 2014   Sun Nov 23, 2014 4:14 am

JPN Junior Nationals is underway (Nov. 23-24). The men's SP took place a couple of hours ago. The result is as follow (taking from GS, thanks to the poster):

1 Shoma Uno 82.72 (3A/3F-3T/3Lz clean; 45.92+36.80=82.72)
2 Sota Yamamoto 67.81
3 Shu Nakamura 61.63
4 Kazuki Tomono 58.38
5 Daichi Miyata 57.68
6 Kosuke Nakano 54.83
7 Hidetsugu Kamata 53.30
8 Koshiro Shimada 51.47
9 Sei Kawahara 50.14

Happy to hear that Shoma finally nails 3A jumps!

As for the ladies, it's over half-way through with the SP competitions. The JGPF contenders seem to be doing well with clean programs. So far the leaders include:

1. Wakaba Higuchi 63.98 (= 36.22+27.76/2A/3F-3T/3Lz)
2. Yuka Nagai 61.49 (=35.29+26.20/3T-3T/3Lz/2A)
3. Yuna Aoki 60.37 (=36.41+23.96/3S-3Lo/3Lz/2A)<-- interesting that Yuna won over Wakaba for TES. I was surprised to read from twitter that she was practicing 3S-3L during practices
4. Kaori Sakamoto 57.35 (3F-3T/3Lz/2A)
5. Yura Matsuda 56.41 (=31.33+25.08/3Lz/3L-3T/2A)
7. Marin Honda 53.09 (=29.25+23.84/ 3F-3T/3Lz/2A) <-- could be either a ! on edge or underrotation problem, otherwise it was reported as a clean skate as well)

(NB: the above results are all unofficial)

Thanx for this news COHK! Wow Shoma scored really, really high. I guess such score is not possible at international competition? scratch

Really happy for Higuchi, and that's a low score for Marin Honda. isn't she said to be the next big thing alongside a few others?

I don't think I'll ever get used to the fact that there's a japanese skater named Yuna. Every time I hear this name, I automatically think of Yuna Kim.

I can't wait to see the final result. Top 3 ladies are very close.

Only SP highlight from TV news so far ( I read somewhere else the competition will be broadcasted next weekend):

(Appearances in order of: Wakaba-Marin-Yuna-Wakaba post interview-Shoma)

Adding: from the pre-FS practice, it looks like Shoma is planning for his free: 4T/3A/3A-3T

Results of ladies:

1 Wakaba Higuchi 1 1 187.95 (!!)
2 Kaori Sakamoto 4 3 168.82
3 Yuka Nagai 2 4 168.74
4 Marin Honda 7 2 167.92
5 Yuna Aoki 3 6 163.68
6 Yura Matsuda 5 9 155.00
7 Mai Mihara 6 8 154.60
8 Rin Nitaya 10 5 154.28
9 Emiri Nagata 9 7 151.34

Protocol:
SP http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2014-2015/fs_j/national_jr/data0203.pdf
FS http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2014-2015/fs_j/national_jr/data0205.pdf

Congrats to Wakaba! And a nice come back of Marin's FS skating.
Adding: as for Shoma, though he won the men's, the 4 falls in FS was hurting...two quad plus two 3A were just too much for him to handle at the moment.

Thank you for the update, COHK!

Here are small photos of Wakaba with Mao  Smile
I don't know when they were taken, though.

Holy cow, Wakaba just scored enough to medal at any senior grand prix this season. WOW! Shocked This is probably a stupid question, but what do two exclamation marks next to Wakaba mean? Embarassed

IMO, I don't think Shoma should've been attempting such a difficult LP. He is so young, he needs the time. Those quads won't run away if he puts them on a shelf for a while.

Embarassed I think I was surprised by Wakaba's high score so I put the exclamation marks there.

As for the photos posted by silenceisgolden, I remember watching a video clip of Wakaba's interview prior to Jpn Junior nationals. I think those photos were taken during World Ex (looks like in practice) this year.

Thanx for explaining, I thought it might of meant something technical. Embarassed

Yes her score is very high. I think this would be the 4th highest score of the GP season in ladies, if I'm not mistaken. I guess it's because she did really well at a national competition. I don't think she can score this high internationally, but then again Sakhanovich scored 125 for LP at her Jr. GP, so you never know. But it's really great to see, that there's a lot of talent coming into senior ranks in the next couple of years. cheers

COHK, I appreciate that you take time to keep us updated with the current state of Japan's FS.
Does anyone know what happened to Marin? Has she had problems with UR or edge calls before?

No problem! I'm drawn to these junior/novice Jpn skaters as I've watched some of them during the summer competition. Smile

In the case of Marin, I saw a video clip interviewing Marin prior to the nationals. In the interview she said she's grown about 10 cm in the past year and suffering from growing pain. That might explain why she left out all the flip/lutz jumps earlier this season. Marin is definitely a lovely skater when watching her skating live. So it's just great that she finally skated the FS clean yesterday!

those photos were taken during 2014 World Championships (if you recall Wakaba was one of the guest skaters during the gala and her music cut halfway through but she kept skating anyways Very Happy )

the video where those screencaps were taken can be found here:
