This music and this look, I think, suit Taka-chan very well. He looks much more "into" it than last season and I love that. I hope his competitive programs will have that kind of spirit as well!!

Well, you are in luck, because that IS his SP! cheers

Some more things about Caprice that I just thought of - Mao isn't using as much eyeliner as she did last season! Or it seems like it...

I do kinda wish Mao's hands weren't covered in black, because it makes it very difficult to see what her fingers are doing. I'd like it if the sleeves ended at her wrist and had a pink trim. Very Happy

Caprice is GORGEOUS, as expected. WOW! I love the camel spin with the fan behind her back. The step sequence is ridiculous, but at the same time, it looked just like steps that would go into a competitive program (it reminded me of the "Masquerade Waltz" steps).

Which does make me wonder, do you guys think that this could potentially be reworked into an SP? I thought maybe TAT purposely made this program very difficult/demanding (and included the 3T) so that it would help Mao with her actual programs, but now I'm wondering if they're secretly planning to maybe use this as a competitive program, if perhaps "Masquerade Waltz" doesn't work out.

I hope this can be reworked as an SP although Masquerade waltz is ok as long as Mao performs like this. I seem to have noticed that those who commented on her EX want to have this as Mao's SP. Maybe we'll get surprised during the course of the season... =)

Ok, I just watched "A Whole New World" again.

I cannot get over how beautiful Mao's arms are in this. WOW! When clovera first mentioned that people on the Japanese forums had mentioned that Mao's use of her arms had improved, I didn't really see it in the "Caprice" clips, but here I was totally impressed. Yep!

(And now a part of me wishes that Mao's competitive programs will allow her to show off those soft, flowy, beautiful ballet arms.. Wub )

Wow, I am so impressed by her Caprice program. I just loved how her movements were strong and powerful in the beginning, reflecting the powerful opening of the music, and then when the music changed to a more upbeat feel, her movements changed to fit it. I agree with everyone who said that she's improved even more...like with her spiral sequence, which is now just crazy incredible. Wow. I can't WAIT to see her programs. If her exhibition is this good, her short and long programs must be beyond amazing!

I think the Jeff/Mao number was seriously THE cutest thing I've EVER seen in my life. The smile that just lit up Jeff's face the entire time, and the way they just skated together in perfect synchrony to one of my favorite songs, and the way they smiled at each other at the end...oh my goodness, it was just so adorable and sweet. Can I submit a request for a Jeff/Mao number every single year for the next, like, 30 years? That would be amazing.

Mao's "Caprice" was totally amazing! Fried

I totally loved the back spiral entrance into huge 2A (with Mao lifting her free leg exactly as the tone of the music rose to a higher pitch), the delay on 3T, the steps into 3F and out of it (sit twizzles on both legs!)

The use of the fan was just fabulous; it probably takes a lot of concentration just to remember when and how to use it - all that opening, closing, tapping, fanning herself ... Not to mention I would drop that fan in 10 seconds even if I tried to repeat the moves off the ice! Laugh

Spirals were fabulous! I think this was one of the rare times when the crowd went really wild during Mao's spiral. The positions, ease of execution, smooth changes of edge and position, the placement in the program - perfect! Plus, I think the gorgeous smile that was shown in close-up on the jumbotron really helped to boost the excitement in the arena! Yep!

I loved how the music changed and worked to Mao's advantage. Fantastic music cut. Swoon It would really make a great SP. Wub

I loved the steps - I think Mao should use steps like that in her competitive programs (or at least one of them). They're not as exhausting as usual, but very engaging and complex enough for lvl3 (at least to my untrained eye), maybe with a small addition of changing leg through jump, etc. Thumbs up!

And both "Caprice" and "A Whole New World" make me wish even more to see Mao skate to "Polovtsian Dances". The exotic look, the softness of skating and use of arms from Alladin combined with the sharpness of steps and the beauty of spirals from "Caprices"... It would be a perfect fit! Drama!

I have issues with the costumes for "Lady Marmelade"... Lips sealed Dear costume designer:
1. Cease with the Lolita look,
2. If there's more costume than the skater, it's not a good thing. Laugh
(Though the Asada sisters would look cute even dressed in a potato sack Laughing )

It's the backstage from The Ice, concentrating mostly on Miki Sakagami, the choreographer of group numbers from the show. flower I watched only the first part so far, but it was very fun.

Thank you for sharing the links, tokitama and Oscilla!

Thank you every one for Mao's THE ICE clips! Mao's Caprice will make such a great SP. She looks so confident and that makes every move even more attractive and beautiful than usual. I love how she skates with speed all throughout the program.

Her pair program with Jeff is just captivating and I agree! they do seem to have more chemistry this time~

Thank you tokitama and Oscilla! flower

OMG, I cannot believe that Mao learned "Lady Marmalade" just *two* days before the show, and "A Whole New World" the day before the show. WOW!! WOW!

And I can't believe that Miki Sakagami had to choreograph 13 of the 31 numbers! Otsukaresama, Sakagami-san! [Good job, Miki!] Worship

In the beginning of the first clip, they show Mao in the finale costume (pink top, black shorts), and she says "[The song] ended!" Apparently, Mao had only 3 minutes after "A Whole New World" and the end of the finale to change, and the first time they tried did, she didn't make it in time. lol! So then they cut her pants so that she could take them off without taking off her skates, and they just held the ends together with a safety pin. Very clever! Very Happy

Mao looked so amused when Miki S. asked her if she saw Jeff's 'tattoos'! Very Happy

The more I see it, the more I with "A Whole New World" could be her EX - the freedom in her movement, those unbelievably graceful arms, I just love it! Many Hearts

One of the Japanese blogs I follow mentioned that perhaps the point of Caprice was to get Mao to be used to smiling/emoting with her face even while she's doing a difficult program. And I thought that was a good point, because the step sequence in "Caprice" seems to be just as hard as the one in "Masquerade Waltz" from last year. So if Mao can look just as happy while she's doing her SP this year, where she's playing a girl at her first ball = very excited and happy, that would be great! Thumbs up!

I can't wait for the full "THE ICE" show to be aired!! Does anyone know if we'll be able to see it on TVAnts or KeyholeTV? Question

Unlike Mao+Miki: The Road to Vancouver, THE ICE will not air on any major network and is planned to be broadcasted by Chukyo TV only, so I'm not counting on any streams to show up on the 15th. Sweatdrop

I'm thinking of just waiting for YT. Razz

I can't stop re-watching Mao's programs! Dance

Caprice is just lovely!!! Love

And did anyone notice that in Lady Marmelade Mao does a full split arabesque with no support? WOW! It's great, although held for a short time (and Mai is in the way, grr, couldn't they film it from a different angle..?) I would love to see it in a competitive program. Thumbs up!

Miki's Requiem is aldo amazing, though I really wanted to shot the camera guys this time. They chose the worst angles ever! Drama! Whose bright idea was to give us a shot up Miki's nostrils during the moving part when she is lying on the ice?! Faint2 I hope they will use different angles in the broadcast on Chukyo TV, because this was just ridiculous.

Forgive me while I indulge in one of my silly moments, Sweatdrop but this spin contest somehow made me think of those fairy tales/myths where the princes had to compete to marry the princess - like racing with Atalanta, for example....

Or something like, "Once upon a time, there was an Ice Princess called Nao-chan (who sometimes dressed like an Arabian princess), and when her parents said she should marry, she said she would marry the winner of the spinning contest!" Too sweet!

Don't apologize for this!! xD
The Tale of Princess Nao is beats classics like Cinderella and Sleeping beauty, in storyline, character development, imagery..etc etc...
All hail Princess Nao Worship

Backstage with Mao & Jeff was just hilarious. Love Hearts "Jeff! Jeff...!" ROTFLMAO

I don't think I'll manage to watch the rest today, I'm leaving to visit my family in a second. Sweatdrop But I'll comment on the performances once I watch them. Woot!
