I think we shouldn't be so worry about the music, first , every person has their own impression. For example, someone see Mao only in light music like Chopin and it's hard for him/her to perceive Mao in the other way. I personally love heavy music and think Mao can skate to super strong and powerful music. Let's wait for JO, then we'll see , what is the music, what is the choreo etc.

I understand your point, polosatik. I would like to point out that I don't like her only skating to Chopin, or slow music. I like her skating to dynamic music. Her Caprices and Tango programs were not to light or airy selections at all, and I absolutely loved them.

I think what bothers me is that I like this piece of music, a lot. I was thrilled when I heard Mao would be skating to it this summer. What I have a problem with is the editing, and because I like this music so much, it's more disappointing for me. Music during an Olympic year is very important and I'm just worried that this isn't right for Mao. While I may not like it, it's not important what I or any other fan like or dislike; I'm only concerned with how well she can skate to it. And after the person who watched her LP last week said that her music was more powerful than the one currently on youtube, I got concerned.

Now I know Mao is not all about winning, she is about challenging herself, and I adore that about her. I just don't want her to be at a disadvantage. Hopefully, TAT will listen to the feedback they receive at TEB and re-edit the music if necessary. Perhaps I'm dead wrong about this and it will be received wonderfully (it wouldn't be the first time! Laugh). My apologies if I seem critical or that I'm freaking out. Olympic seasons are very stressful for me when I'm hoping for the best for my favorites. Yep, Sadly

Mmmm..then I read hastaluego06 post I thought the person who saw it don't like the music by itself, not the cut. Suspect He/she thinks that music is too heavy, there wasn't any specification. Razz

Wow, such great news! Thanks a lot for translating, dangerous_angel_face, Batsuchan and hastaluego06! cheers flower

I am so looking forward to seeing Mao perform her new FS this Saturday!! I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that people find the spiral sequence fabulous. The prelude needs a great spiral sequence to shine through the program Love Hearts. Usually, Mao's spirals, though exquisite in terms of position and stretch, is choreographed/executed to look more like a transition than a highlight of the program - which *sometimes* (though v. v. rarely) has an anti-climatic effect... Snow

Based on the reports, I believe that the choreography is going to be fine (no worries!). Just hoping that we will still see the genuine Mao shine through in the midst of the heavy rhythm and bell chimes. Razz "Overcome", as roma had said, is the theme. We believe in you Mao!!

On a sidenote: (occasionally though, i find myself wondering what would it be like if David Wilson were the choreographer for Mao's programs)

Skate the lights out, Mao!!! Cheering Cheering

I was referring to a post made a week or so ago (it's in the last few pages somewhere) of someone who saw this performance, and said the music was, quote, "more powerful than the one [circulating] on youtube." That youtube version is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD4LvkFsje4&feature=related
I thought this most recent report supported and was consistant with the previous one, which is why I made that assumption.

The most loud and powerful part of that music by far is the chorus, as the rest of it is actually quite brooding, quiet, and haunting. So I'm assuming based on these reports that the chorus will be repeated over and over again, like with Masquerade. What concerns me is that the youtube version is repetitive, loud, and bombastic enough, I cannot imagine it being moreso. Snow

You're right that possibly the person who made the report just doesn't like Bells, but Jeff Buttle's version, and the edit Okami/Zamboni used for their montage would never be described, I think, as "too powerful."

But maybe you're right. We'll just have to see.

I forgot to mention this is my first post: I am dying to see that spiral! Faint2 A previous report said one position was in the shape of a bell, and if it's like the youtube version, she might be doing her spiral while the bells are chiming. As much as I've complained about that version of the music, one thing I love about it are the bells chiming mid-way through, and I was hoping that Mao would do her spiral at that point. I get massive chills just thinking about it! WOW!

I understand you now, anyway let's wait, because we don't know for sure, what this person means, or what word"heavy" means for him/her, it can be different Laughing
Hmm.. Offtopic Sweatdrop I want to make Mao a banner to support her during Rostelecom cup ( yes, i'm going for sure!) and I don't know what to write, can you advice me something?

Sounds good. Smile

And for your banner, how about: Mao: the Bell (Belle) of of the Ball! Bell relates to her LP, and TAT said Mao's SP would be her going to her first "ball," the Olympics. The "belle of the ball" is usually the most gorgeous, show-stopping woman at a ball, which I think fits Mao perfectly Wub .
Just a thought! Razz

Watching all the new programs that popped up recently makes me even more eager to see Mao's... Unconscious Thankfully, Japan Open is just behind the corner... Who, me?

I'm really curious about the spiral sequence! Looks like most (or all) of the reports from Chukyo mentioned it as being great... Japan Open, come here sooner! Cheering

That's so wonderful. sunny I'm still wishing I can also see Mao compete live. But that won't happen this season. Sad

This is really nice. cheers

CoR starts after TEB so there'd probably be new pictures of Mao in her new costumes before it starts. Make's me think what her costume for Masquerade will be. I hope it's different from last season's styles. Something cheerful like how Mao wants to portray in her SP.

JO : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCnZbJBXbl8
Unfortunately, she missed both triple axels and the salchow and finished with a 102.94 score. Her speed and artistry seems to have improved. However, her jumps didn't have the fluidity they usually have. I'm not that worried though, Mao is a skater who starts slow and gradually improves during a season.

Aww too bad for the jumps but i like the choregraphy compared to masquerade. I think the music is still a bit too heavy for mao. No And what happen to the bell shaped spira;!

Thank you Rory ! I wanted to see this !

I love it when, in the 2nd part, little Mao's crying after a fall on her 3A and there's her coach and Mai (giving her Tissue) supporting her. I also wonder if the person next to Machiko coach is Mao's mom. We don't usually see her on TV but she looks like Mai. She's beautiful.

That was a beautiful documentary - there'll be another episode next week on Mao. cat

Since the majority of the episode was on young Mao - particularly during her days skating for the Grand Prix Tokai Club - there were many familiar faces. The little girl tugging by Mao's shoulder while they (and the rest of the club) were watching Yoshie and Yukari skate is Kanako. I love you

Mao continues two 3axels nonetheless
http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/p-sp-tp0-20091005-551817.html

The idea is Mao's own will. TAT considered lowering the technical difficulty but Mao didn't agree.

There's no mention on the lutz.

I must say very disappointing.

Thanks for the summary and welcome to the forum, murasaki! Smile

Well, since Mao herself wishes it to be this way, I can only support her in this decision. There's still a couple of major stops before the Olympics, so let's hope all the pieces of the puzzle will find their place just in time.
