PostSubject: NHK's Sunday Sports (Dai, Kozu, Kanako)   Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:06 am

tokitama mentioned it on the Mao news thread, and the entire segment has been uploaded on YT by riopota. cat

Like a Star @ heaven Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elBJWcR8YGc Like a Star @ heaven

Part 1 focuses on Dai, while Part 2 has Takeshi Honda discussing Dai's current condition, a short snippet on Kozu and the rest on Kanako. I love you

~Brief Summary~
(Part 1)
- Begins with Dai's return to Japan on the 24th after an extended training camp at Detroit for his competitive programs
- A detailed recap on his injury, including an interview with Dr. Kunio Hara who was in charge of nursing Dai back to top form (he mentions Dai's attempt to return to competition after the ligament and miniscus injury as being virtually unprecedented)
- Several months were spent on improving Daisuke's extension and flexibility, something that was determined to be lacking after a thorough examination during his rehab treatment
- Dai mentions being able to skate faster and with less effort than before; clips of Dai's 3-3 and 3A-2T
- Interview with Pasquale Camerlengo, who choreographed Dai's programs, who talked about being worried about Daisuke's condition but ultimately found him to be more confident and motivated
- Extended clip on Daisuke's step sequence (narration mentions that his step sequence(s) has the features and content intended to aim for a level 4 - an approach we have seen with MaoTat)
- Clip of Dai's spins, with a side-by-side comparison between that of last year; there's a definite improvement in speed, and positions - most notably the camel and sit
- Dai intends to work on increasing his stamina both off and on the ice
- Note: his SP is to Coba's Eye, while his FS is to the music from the classic Italian film La Strada

(Part 2)
- Takeshi is one of Daisuke's coaches now
- Brief section on skaters returning to competition this year, including Plushy and Lambiel
- Looks like Takeshi visits the Chukyo Univ. ice rink from time to time and gave a few tips to Kozu on the quad, mainly on timing and shifting weight during the lift-off; Takeshi explains that Kozu has a much easier time rotating his quad now and not "muscling it through"
- Kozu mentions his 4T success rate to be 70~80% now
- The program now shifts gears to Kanako~
- Narration on how Kanako started skating when she was 5 after her older sister (parallel to Mao and Mai here!)
- Kanako practices for 4 hours every day during the summer
- Machiko talks about Kanako having the ability to draw people into her performances; describes Midori as powerful, Mao as a "soft breeze" and refreshing, and Kanako as having flair
- Kanako has quite an appetite - she brings us to her favorite restaurant she visits before practice and orders curry udon and karaage (Japanese-style fried meat)
- Although she pays attention to her other elements, Kanako explains that her main focus currently is to perfect her jump technique; the clip shows her practicing the 3T-3T and the 3Lp
- Kanako's ambition is to be a skater that have the best parts of both Mao and Yu-Na Razz

Some of the things that caught my attention:
Like a Star @ heaven There were news clips from before, but this extended feature really shows that Dai skates with his knees a lot more now (akin to Tono and Kozu), and we can see with the comparison clip on his spins that he gets much deeper on them too. The step sequences look REALLY good! Shocked
Like a Star @ heaven Very happy to hear Kozu's quad success rate improving - last season it was pretty much nonexistent even in practice; Takeshi's advice seems to be helping considerably.
Like a Star @ heaven Kanako's DOI EX have shown this as well, but we can see how she worked on improving her set-up time and picking technique on her jumps. It's great to see her add the loop to her repertoire!

I wonder if Kanako practices part-time at the Chukyo University rink as well now. We have seen her practicing there from documentaries and behind-the-scenes of THE ICE (which she was part of, so its only natural) and it wouldn't be too crazy of an idea since Grand Prix Tokai Club's rink is full of people as usual. Happy dance

Thank you so much, clovera! cheers

Finally some practice clips! Happy dance There seems to be less practice clips available than last year... The skaters appear on TV a lot, but usually in interviews, shows, etc. It makes me a bit anxious! Laugh

Nice to see Dai and Kozu again. Yes, Dai seems to be using his knees more! He looks good and his LP looks rather funny. Smile Kozu looks good as well, I'm glad his quad success rate is improving.

Kanako looks great! Thumbs up! I'm glad to see her attempt 3-3, it was UR somewhat, but definitely a fantastic improvement over last season when she struggled even with simple jumps. 3L was great! I hope she has a fantastic season. It would be great if she could make the Jr.Worlds team and win 3 spots back for the next season. Good luck!

Good luck, Mao!

Thanks a lot, Batsuchan! Now I can watch those clips again and understand what they're talking about. Smile
