Wow, so Mao will change her SP to Caprice.

I think she should change her LP too.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, guys, but this article says the same thing as everything else. MAO *MIGHT* CHANGE HER PROGRAM. IT HASN'T BEEN DECIDED YET!

In the translation, here's the key sentence at the beginning:

"Her
current short program which she performed at TEB "Masquerade Waltz" and
will skate to at this weekends second grand prix event, Rostelecom Cup
in Moscow will likely give way to "24 Caprices" by Niccolo Paganini at
the series concluding Grand Prix Final in Tokyo in early December."

And later in the article, one of Mao's managers says, it says, "We will ask for Tarasova-sensei's opinion, and in the end we'd like to pick whichever is easier for Mao to skate to."

So I agree, this is a positive sign, but nothing's been finalized yet! Very Happy

Yes, I noticed that the article said she is "considering" changing her SP. I don't know why I said she IS changing it... I think I read it in some other posts somewhere else, and thought they had read some other info than I hadn't, and for some reason ran with that scratch

Personally, I think she will change it :albino:

Mao looks hilarious in the outfit!

As adorable as she is, I don't think she'd make a very convincing celebrity... :sweatdrops: Her energy is dwindling towards the end of the clip because the speech is so long. Smile

Btw, is she trying to speak v. formally in Japanese because the phrasings of sentences sounds slightly different to me. (just curious cheers)

Yes, she is. The way she talks here is like an old chairwoman making her speech. ROTFLMAO and it's kind of cute because I can see Mao reading her script from the movement of her eyes!

I know this clip is just for fun, Mao is wearing a silly outfit, and she always looks beautiful to me, but did anyone else think she looked especially pretty in that video? I think it might have been her make up. I've seen Mao with light, wispy make up before, and she just looks stunning with it; it really suits here better than the dark eyeliner and dark red lipstick she wears for competions. Just look at this photo of her wearing lighter make up:

http://i36.tinypic.com/ehy7ep.jpg Faint2 Too gorgeous, and her make up here would be perfect for a pink dress. Swoon

Maybe her new pink SP dress will have some pretty, less dramatic make up to go with it! Many Hearts

Even if the dress looks too much for Mao, she still looks beautiful. : D And yes, I really like Mao with light makeup. It was really funny looking at the video with Mao reading her script. She doesn't look comfortable... Very Happy

That was HILARIOUS!! Thanks so much for posting, coconut!

I think you're right Liffey, that Mao looks really pretty here, and the light makeup is nice, but I also think it's because she's smiling and looks happy!

josling - the link takes a long time to load, so maybe try again and give it a little time?

I am not 100% confident about this, so please read with a grain of salt:

But I think the article revealed the other song choice that Mao was given by TAT and guess what, it's a song/songs by a Hungarian composer, Franz Listz. Shocked

Okay, I am totally speculating, but is it possible that the song is Liebestraum? cheers

IIRC, I heard some poster said before that they'd like Mao to perform to Liebestraum Cloud 9

My Japanese wasn't good enough to translate the entire article but it DID NOT confirm that she will change the FS.

It is just saying that Mao eventually chose the Prelude by Rachmaninoff as her FS, while the other song choice was songs by Franz Liszt.

AHaah, don't worry, this was just a question, because I don't know why the japanese news paper published that?!

Ooooh, it's fine, bibi flower, I'm just worried that people may misunderstood that Mao is changing her programs, which I don't think is exactly true for this article. Smile Sorry if I've overreacted... Neutral

I did really rough translation. but hope it helps. Smile

Rostelecom cup now began and we found out that there was another choice of music for Mao Asada.
She chose the bells by Rachmaninoff at the end but there was also a song from Hungarian composer, Franz Liszt.

Mao Asada who is aiming for gold medal at Vancouver Olympics had been thinking for a different song. European pianist Liszt from 19th century. The soft piano song is calm and really different from the bells which is heavy and somewhat solemn.

Mao had been listening to the music since last year and considering it as her olympic program. However while creating the program, she felt something was missing from the music.
"It was too gentle and cute," says the person concerned. "She wanted something that pushes her."

Masquerade waltz was used in last season. She managed to skate this hard number with two 3A. Finally the decision was made by Mao that she will use The bells this year because she was thinking for something that gives her strength.

In order to prove that the decision was right, she needs to get some good result. She was wearing a new pink costume for the official practice of Rostelecom cup and doing 3a-2t for her SP. She should put all her energy in SP so that the bells will ring in Moscow.

Not really sure if this counts as "Mao news" but it's to do with her music choice so here goes:

There's a video on youtube of Mao's TEB SP set to the music of 'Skater's Waltz' by Emile Waldteufel. The video can be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si2WjXAXPDs

We've been saying that Mao should return to her light, lyrical, ethereal etc. style of skating but watching this video made me think that maybe Mao hasn't changed her style of skating at all, as far as her SP is concerned. It's only the music choice that is making it seem as if she's trying to adopt a darker approach to her programs.

Set to 'Skater's Waltz', her SP looks as light and lyrical as her skating ever did. Whereas Masquerade Waltz seemed to weigh her down and make her skating look slower than it actually is, a more upbeat and higher-pitched music makes everything look that much more balletic. Look at how soft her movements are! I've always thought her step-sequence for Masquerade, whilst wondrously complex and detailed, seemed repetitive. But it's not actually the skating itself that is repetitive, but that portion of the Masquerade Waltz.

And with 'Skater's Waltz', her dress looks so very appropriate. In fact, it looks perfect for the program. She reminds me of the sugar-plum fairy.

I'm feeling a bit sheepish now because maybe those CBC commentators were actually onto something when one of them said the music was too heavy. I reckon Mao should still keep 'The Bells', because it showcases the dramatic side of Mao's skating, but I have to wonder what a lighter and more floaty piece of music would do to Mao's SP performance.

omg! Liszt's Liebstraume or Liebsleid? Or it could have been La Campanella- it was cited as "light"? I can't really imagine Campanella as a figure skating program though.

@ sapphiresky - La Campanella is an amazing piece! But I can't imagine it as skating music either Very Happy At least not the original piano arrangment. Imagine how tired Mao would be, trying to match her skating to the quickest part of the piece Shocked *faints*
