Thanks a lot Smile ! Could someone please translate what it says?

Well..using google translator, it said Mao is second favorite player in Japan, after a national survey they did. Razz Razz Very Happy
they also said she was sixth last year and Daichan got the 7th place.

Yep, Dani-chan got it quite right bibi! The survey was done by a company who does national wide surveys called Chuo-Chousa(although I'm sure nobody's interested in this bit). They actually met 4000 people at randomly chosen over the age of 20 in April for this.
24.5% of the votes went to Ichiro, and Mao was in second place. I saw the survey results in detail in the company's web site(http://www.crs.or.jp/pdf/sports10.pdf). It seems of amongst women Mao is in 2nd place but amongst men her popularity drops to 5th place. Amongst ages, she is in 2nd place for all ages except for people in their 50s, who seem to prefer Ryo Ishikawa (the golfer) more...I'm sorry if some of you are fond of the sport but, I cannot imagine any sport more boring than golf! Ryo seems to be a nice guy, but I can never put myself up to watching him play. Mad

Btw, they seem to be doing this survey every year, and Mao seem to have been in 6th place last year. This sounds kind of strange...I bet they happened to have selected a whole bunch of men in their 50s for last years' survey. I am definite that if not more than Ichiro, Mao still is much popular than Ryo for sure. I mean, his golf games do not get high ratings like the competitions Mao is in! Of course they don't air golf tournaments in the evenings like they do FS thesedays, but they don't cause they'd never get ratings anyway. To be honest, there even could be something fishy about this survey company... Rolling Eyes

And e2girl, no news yet within Japan about coaches or pros yet... Crying or Very sad

Ah, I've been having this thought for ages. Who, me?

Also, if you take a look at the article, the number of people who actually participated in the poll is a mere 1315 out of the 4000 who were initially approached. According to the detailed results, there's not much of a gap between Mao and Ryo Ishikawa. Even taking into account that there's not too many participants in this poll...really? I'm truly baffled by this result.

I apologize in advance to his fans, but I never understood his popularity at all. The level of media exposure and praise he's receiving is borderline ridiculous, especially when we have other athletes in skating, table tennis, gymnastics et al. leaving great results on the international stage, if not win. He must have a good PR rep - I'll just leave it at that. Laughing

Back on topic: Congrats to Mao for coming in second and Dai for making the top 10! Confetti

This article was originally posted on the Japanese skating forum. I think there's a mention about the new coach and programs being decided by July 30? Isn't that a bit late? confused I appreciate it if someone could translate this. Thanks Smile

Someone translate the original Korean new to Chinese. According to the translation, what Mao mentioned is
1. She will use soft music for next season
2. She was shocked when she first heard that Orser would be her new coach and she has no idea where does this come from.
3. She will do 3A next season but might not try 3lutz. But she will practice more and use it in program 2-3 years later.
4. She would like to promote the level of ladies' figure skating together with Yuna Kim.

Thanks cat Hmm.. I feel it's better to try 3lutz sooner in competitions, because then she can get more used to doing it and feel less nervous. Also, I am wondering if she doesn't do the lutz, can she still do the 3-3 without repeating jumps? Or does this mean she needs to do the Sal?

article translation:

"I think by competing with Yuna Kim-san, we were able to gather more attention for figure skating. I'd like to continue to competing in good will in the future, so to raise the mood" -.
The Japanese figure skater Mao Asada, arrived in Seoul on the 3rd for the ice show to be held from 5th-6th.
After training on Tuesday, she told reporters, "I'd like to go on competing with Yuna-san along with the coming generations of players, for the sake of figure skating (increasing its' popularity) if possible".
(...)
Asada's coach for next season has not been decided yet, but she has already decided on part of her new programs in Russia on July 30, and said that there's been steady progress in preparing.
In Russia, a she has newly constructed an SP. The specific contents are still not revealed, but different from the strong atmosphere in her former programs, she said the program will be soft and gentle.
"I want to include the lutz which I wasn't so good at so far. If I can't succeed this season, I want to go on trying so to be able to jump it for sure in 2-3 years time", she has said her goal was.

--------------------------------------------------end

Sorry for not translating all of it. It really didn't say much so I just focused on quotes on what Mao actually said. All that she said were nice and polite, I'm proud of how she handled the media there. Smile

I did shorten some of the details like which auditorium the ice show will be held and stuff...but I tried to translate Mao's words as they are written. As far as I've read, there is no mention of Orser's name in the Japanese article. And she definitely says she wants to go for a lutz!

Thanks for the translation Pochinko flower

Ok, do they mean May 30? Because it's only June. Razz I am glad she's working on the lutz. Thumbs up! Hoping she will go back to her 2007-2008 layout with two 3-3 and one 3A. I still think that's the best layout put out by a ladies skater ever.

Sorry aoi, my mistake! Yes that was May 30! Embarassed

Does anyone have the link to the original Korean article? It may include more info than this Japanese one. But she sounds pretty eager to go for a lutz in the Japanese one! Smile

Okay guys, I found the original Korean article, which is a bit more detailed than the Japanese one. I only used Google translator, but firstly it pretty much says the same as what I've translated from the Japanese article.

http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr/sports/2010/06/04/1007000000AKR20100604169400007.HTML

But they did ask her about the Orser coaching rumor, and she seems to have said she was very surprised when she heard about it, and cannot understand why such a story had gone around.

About her jumps, it seems she said something like 'I will go on jumping my 3As as usual' but also that 'I want to include the lutz jumps I wasn't able to jump. If it turns out that I do not have the luxury to do so this season, I definitely want to complete it within 2-3 years'.

She also promised in the end a great show for her fans saying, 'Although I'm a rival of Yuna's, people in Korea always welcome me here which surprises me, but I am always very grateful for that.'

Some of the grammer came out funny, but it was pretty much clear that this was what she did say more or less... Smile

Tks for the translation Pochi, flower
I really really hope Mao goes for the 3Lz this next season, even if it means she will have to sacrifice some podiums. It's really important to start doing it in competitions, also to equilibrate her programs.
If she is not doing the lutz, she will have to add the salchow to her programs .
Anyway, I'm here cheering and sending good vibes to Mao. I know she will work hard and do her best Love Love Hearts

I'm also glad she's going to work on the lutz right away. Do you think that she needs the salchow if she adds the lutz, though? I know she's probably going to try to add both because that's the kind of skater she is, but with the slight changes in base values for this season, isn't getting the salchow less important? What do you think?

If she gets her lutz stable, she doesn't need the sal. At this point, it's more important to add back the 3-3 and work on the lutz. Considering the bonus points for combination jumps, 3-3 will be even more valuable in the future. I think adding the sal can be a personal goal for Mao, because it looks good to have all the triples. However, since skaters aren't really rewarded for doing all the triples, it is not necessary to include the sal if she has the rest.

Hmm.. I was thinking about the new downgrade rules. Whenever ISU installs new rules, they are always so strict with the judging. I remember the judging was especially strict during 2007-2008 when they starting enforcing the edge rules and harsher downgrades. I am concerned that judges may be less willing to give the skaters the benefit of doubt, which means that if the jump is anywhere near the 1/4 mark, they might make a call.

Thanks for the translation, PPotanko!

I like the fact that Mao will continue doing her 3As in the upcoming season. Although she doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves for her 3As, I feel that they set her apart from the rest of the field (in addition to her various other qualities). So yes, interested to see how she incorporates the 3A this time round!

Of course, the return of the 3lutz would be nice too cheers.

I think it would be good if she could get both jumps, but the lutz is more important. I haven't heard anything about her working on the salcow at all, so maybe she figures if she gets the lutz down, there's not a big need to spend time on the salcow.

I can't wait to hear about her new coach. I'm getting worried about it. I don't want to see Mao training by herself and struggling again. No
