Serafima Sakhanovich http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl_AKA22cG8

Alsu Kayumova http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wQb3W_LQSA

Natalia Ogoreltseva http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-p6IZrU-yQ

Those three ladies looked really tense, and their coaches looked scary. I can only imagine what their training could be like... Fried I like Serafima's jump technique out of the three. I'm a bit worried about Alsu and Natalia though, because most of their jumps lack height. I hope their teams can fix that. Also, I'm not so sure about the axel techniques of these 3 ladies. I'll need to see how they grow to be more certain.

But wow, did Natalia just throw that 3Lz-3Lo as her 2nd jump? Do we have another loop user?! Also, her Paso Doble seemed quite snappy to me. I wonder how far her (as well the other 2) expression in performing can grow? Good luck!

The 2014 Russian Nationals in the senior ladies must be one exciting competition. cheers

I like how Lena is not only a good jumper, but a good entertainer ! We used to say that the russian babies were just jumping beans but Lena sure is not Smile Just watch her gala program: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs93B6aNr_A&feature=share&list=FLN6TpXNjpU0bFankEi33OLw

Yes, she did 3lz+3lo and got it ratified with +.20 GOE Encore She also attempted it in SP, but fell on the loop. Natalia is a loop jumper, she also has a 3lo+3lo and last season did a 3s+2lo+2lo in FS. Her artistry is my favorite of the three, if only her jumps were better...

And ITA on RN 2014-it's going to be one amazing competition affraid

I believe Anna Pogorilaya and Julia Lipnitskaya. Anna won 2 medals on JGP(bronze and gold) and she is the currently bronze medalist at the JGPF(Sochi). She was only 6th in Russian junior nationals but was 5th in seniors. Plus, from the junior national final placement, she is the third eligible skater to go to Jr. Worlds. Julia was 5th in junior nationals but is the second eligible skater, plus she won medals on the Senior grand prix circuit so she really earned her place on the team IMO

Mine too! If she'll survive puberty, she'll be the star of this sport, IMO.

I'm rooting for Lena to win as well, and I think she will, she's just as flexible as Yulia, her technique is much better (IMO) and she skates to the music and not through it. Not to mention, she has tons of personality. I just adore her.

polosatik, do you happen to know who'll go to senior worlds? Nikol did achieve the minimal TES for both SP and LP.

I' also rooting for Elena. It's hard, next to impossible to not like her. Yes, her skating is a bit rushed, unrefined but who cares? She is so young and yet poised, she has fun on the ice and that makes her very pleasant to watch. It helps that she has such a cute face that can give you instant diabetes Razz
I loved Serafima, the junior silver medalist from Junior Russian Nationals but there is something iffy to her jump technique, so I am not as excited about her as others. Solid technique is the most important thing at this age. There were many talented juniors, even a bit older than Liza/Adelina who didn't make it even though things were looking good for them at the age 13-14-15.(Agafonova, Shelepen, Sheveleva, Ovcharova...). Actually, all these young girls have killer technical content at that age but they lose some of the ability as they grow. Even Adelina who looks to be on her way up doesn't have the same jump content as she did when she first appeared on the scene. The only one who kept her jumps intact( actually they became even bigger) is Liza, who has a killer technique. I can't think of any other skater who could grow like she did the last couple of seasons and still land everything with ease. That kind of talent is very rare and will get her very far IMO. Radionova's jumps have the same power and height which makes her future look bright . I don't see Julia making it to the top to be honest. Her jumps are getting worse and puberty just started for her. Since she relayed on her incredible rotation speed to make the jumps she will suffer deeply when puberty kicks bad. I think this is the beginning of the end of her Sad

ROTFLMAO Love the "instant diabetes" part. So true.

Yes she is a bit rushed, burt then again she's only 13, so give her a few years and she'll be perfect. Yep!

I think Adelina's problem beside growth spurt is her jumping technicque. Her jumps are high, but not textbook. Even Liza, who like you said has "perfect" technique is strugling a bit, which is normal, considering she filled out and is also battling injuries.
I completely agree with you about Yulia, even now, when she's tiny, her jumps and especially landings are really strange. Add height and weight and she'll be in serious trouble. When she grows, her protocol will be filled with UR's, IMO.

I'm not a PCS expert, but why was Yulia's PCS higher during GP's than Liza's? scratch I know there's a lot of criticism about Liza's SS, but to me Yulia's skating doesn't look much better, but like I said I'm not a PCS expert...

polosatik wrote:

Me too! She completely deserves to go. Alena had anything but a good season, not to mention nationals, so Nikol should get a chance instead. And with Adelina and Liza doing so well, there's no worry about Russia loosing 3 spots for Sochi. I'm affraid though, that in men there will be only 1 going to Oly's. Yep, Sadly

I'm not a PCS expert either and many times the scores make no sense to me. I actually think Julia has poor SS, she needs many crossovers to generate speed and after every element(almost every element) she does a little quick jump to be able to go to the next element(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-76HOHwilHg aroud 0.51-0.53. It's actually more annoying in the LP, after almost every jump she needs to do this move because she lacks the flow out of her jumps). The only reason I can think Julia scored more on PCS than Liza is simply because of reputation. Everyone thought she was going straight to the top, she broke Mao's records as a junior while Liza had a shaky start to the season, she grew and was visibly slower than last year at that time. However I think Liza made massive improvement and looked mighty good at Euros. The judges are still a bit harsh to her compared to the others, not only on PCS but even on GOE( how in the world did her 2A-3T combo at Europeans, which was simply huge, got lower GOE than Adelina's 2A-3T barely rotated combo is something I can't understand even one bit).
I don't think currently Julia comes close to Liza in terms of PCS, which is right. I realize I am probably sounding very harsh towards Julia but I actually respect her as a competitor and I can see her fierceness and determination proving to be enough to survive puberty. Who knows? I used to think Adelina is not listening to the music when she skates but this proved to be wrong and the only reason she was so robotic in some of her programs was because of her nerves. Her SP this season at Euros was amazing and she was on fire. I think Julia has that fire in her but she didn't managed yet to bring it out. I feel for her and I want a medal for her at Junior worlds, as a consolation prize for a very hard season.
I am on team Nikol too flower she earned her place IMO and deserves to go.

Ridiculous scoring is the reason I try staying away from looking at protocol, it just pisses me off more.

I hope Liza will have a killer worlds and will leave her two team members in dust. Razz Yep! And I get it why judges score her down on PCS, she does need to work on her SS and rink coverage, but giving her lower GOE on her amazing jumps... Evil or Very Mad

I know you're interested in this competition guys Wink It's Cup of Tver ,where final Russian World team is going to be named, it's going to start at 16th of February. Leonova said she reworked her jumps after New Year and she's going to skate to her old LP-Requiem. There is no official skaters list yet,but Alena,Nikol,Artur and Menshov are participating for sure.

Hope she comes back strong! Not the biggest fan of hers, but I admire her dedication and passion for the sport which is clearly obvious when she skates. I love you

Btw, Nobu won the Bavarian Open scoring 250.80 in total...not bad at all! cheers
Many former top skaters (still highly ranked overall though) haven't given up on anything yet.
I'm sure Leonova too is aiming high for a sensational comeback, too. Thumbs up!

Nikol was beautiful. Wub I'd give Nikol a higher score or lower Alena's score, they're too close, IMO. It doesn't really matter who Russian Fed sends IMO, because the new stars are clearly Adelina and Liza, so whoever will go as third russian will be dropped by the judges. Alena had her gift last year in Nice, she's not receiving another one.

And I still hate her SP. Sexy posing is not a choreography and that step sequence shouldn't be higher than level 2. Disappointed

I agree,Nikol is such an artistic treasure. I know our federation prefers Alena, but,I like Nikol so much. She's my 3rd favourite lady, even 2nd,though I adore Adelina's qualities,Nikol has and edge in emotional part for me. She feels music so well!! Oh, I just love her without the reason sunny And want to make a little note, then she was little she was winning over Liza and Adelina, she was the first baby star in Russia, but since she is Southern type she started to grow earlier then other girls. Her technique become really bad and inconsistent, but look at her now! She still has technical problems, but she overcame a lot of difficulties.

I didn't know this. Shocked I always thought Adelina was unbeatable from the moment she entered the scene. Go Nikol! cheers As for growing up, IMO it's better to grow earlier, this way you have more time to adjust, and I do believe Nikol will overcome her issues eventualy, then to have a growth spurt a season before Olympics, or even worse in the Olympic season.

Why does Russian Fed prefer Alena? seriously, I don't want to sound mean, but what does everyone see in her?! Yes she's a good performer, but that's it. And since she moved to Morozov her performance skills were downgraded to sexy grimaces and sexy posing. Disappointed Even though I don't like her, I firmly believe that she deserves much more than what Morozov is giving her.

Thumbs up! She's really not one of my favourite skaters, but I would like her to skate "real" choreographies and do some steps that are not just "smile, jump, run on your toes, scream, smile..."; however, now I just hope that she will be able to land some of her jumps tomorrow, if she doesn't place on the podium here she's really done for this season (and maybe for the next one as well)...

Alena won FS and won overall so I think she's going to London. Alena got 114.09 - 53.85+60.24 for her FS. Polina Agafonova is 2nd and Nikol is only 3thбsadly she didn't have a good skate(( Sad I guess that's not enough for her to go, but anything can happen there is no official decision yet.

I can understand some (or most) of you not being so fond of Leonova...I never really was myself, but seeing the vids here I think she still has some qualities which other skaters do not, and if she can fix all her jumps, I think her performances can become extremely better altogether. I didn't like the way she skated before because she had energy but was simply too sloppy whatever she did. But her spins and steps seem to have become much better, at least to me. If she can only nail those jumps in better quality, I think she'll be evaluated much higher.

Skaters like Leonova and Agnes Z. are definitely what I call lady power skaters. I'm guessing alot of people don't see what the big point about Agnes is in this forum either, cause we're all Mao fans which shows we prefer neat and soft skaters rather than powerful and rough skaters. I saw Agnes skate live only in JO and COI, and she was in terrible condition at JO. But in COI which is like a gala for JO, she had some mistakes but her jumps were big and dynamic! She was like a female version of Brezina...and I think Leonova has the same kind of dynamism with a bit more artistry when she's at her best. She actually has quite a few fans in Jpn, and I think that counts for something. I think they like her cause they can obviously feel she's always trying the best she can. Well, all skater try the best they can of course, but there's something in Leonova which stands out when it comes to that.

I know I'm minority, but I thought her going to Morozov was a good idea. After all, Morozov is the one who brought out the best in Miki, who is to me one of the most successful lady power skaters in Jpn, and we only had very few of them. Midori Ito was definitely a power skater but let's face it, she didn't have half as much artistry as Miki. Morozov is good at combining power skating with unique style based on the skater's personality. He may have problems as a person, but I still think he's a pretty good coach. As for this season's pros, I only wished they didn't combine that adagio before the theme from 'Requiem for a Dream' in Leonova's FP. The latter music fits her style very well I think but the adagio is too lyrical for her I think. The SP isn't so good either; too Morozov! Leonova doesn't have to 'act' that much, she should only stick to being herself. I think she'd do much better then. Smile
