Wow, wow, wow, wow wow!!!!!! Tango for the SP?!!! Happy dance Happy dance And Liebestraum for the FS!!! (Well, I guess that really wasn't a surprise anymore...the rumor was true!)

Soo happy! Many Hearts

But THEN, to hear that Mao's doing Chopin's "Ballade No. 1 in G minor" for her EX---really, I nearly fell out of my chair!!!!

inskate wrote:

Ballade no.1 has both soft and dramatic part - the middle is very intense. Swoon It was reportedly inspired by Mickiewicz's Konrad Wallenrod (a poetic story about a Polish fighter for freedom). It was also used in ballet Lady of the Cammelias. Smile

YES, YES, ever since I saw this ballet a few weeks ago, I've been absolutely OBSESSED OBSESSED with Ballade #1!!! Yep!

It comes at the climatic Act III pas de deux, and with the right cast, it's just amazing!! Like Pochi, I'm a little unsure how you can possibly cut such a masterwork, but I am sooo thrilled that Mao is taking the risk!!

It's definitely one of my top 5 classical favorites!!

Now I'm REALLY excited for next week's Dreams on Ice!!!!!!

I'm so excited to see what Mao will do with these music choices! Listening to Liebestraum (shame on me for not listening to it before, even though so many members have commented on it!), it's such a classic Mao piece.

And in addition to the tango, it really seems as if Mao is going back to basics this season, and picking up once again all those things that really worked for her (and appeased the judges) in previous seasons. Both a strategically smart move, and a super-exciting one for fans, because we're finally going to see the reappearance of 'ballerina' Mao on ice. cheers

I can't wait to see the choreography, and the costumes, and just Mao skating again in general!!! Cheering Cheering Cheering

I have been busy with fathers day family stuff all day, so I'm just finding out about the news now - and I'm happy!

I am the most happy about Lieberstraum! When I think of the Mao I love the most, I think of this type of music. I think the tango is a great choice too. I especially liked the version kirakira posted. I wonder which versions of the songs Mao will be doing... Well I guess that's one of the things that we will be kept guessing about next!

I do like the Chopin song she is using for her Ex, but I think it would be better as a program piece rather than an Ex. I would like to see Mao use a fun, different song for her Ex. Maybe the news about her possibly having two Ex's is true, and her other one will be completely different from the other!

Anyway, I won't complain too loud. After being disappointed overall over her music selections last season, I'm loving her choices this season!!

And the whole plan to do a 3A, AND a 3-3 in the SHORT?! Yikes!!!
Well, all I have to say about that is, "Mao, you go girl!"Cheering

Couldn't agree with you more!!

Oh, and I LOVE the new Mao pics!!! :

There are already several videos of all of Mao's new programs on YT, but this one is my favorite of them all so far!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7KX2-AGzc0&feature=channel

I like the orchestra version of Liebestraume much more than the piano version. I think it adds more dynamics, and sounds fuller. I also love how this person chose the So Deep Is The Night program to go with this song. These videos never match up as perfectly as an original program, but this one is one of the better ones I've seen.

This same person also did a really great video for her new tango too:

The possibility a 3A + 3-3 in the SP is so...ah, words fail me at this point in describing how glorious the moment would be when Mao does pull it off. It's so ambitious, but Mao is so much a pioneer in women's figure-skating that if she does indeed do both a 3A and a 3-3 in the short...let's just say that no one would be surprised that it was Mao Asada of all people who pulled it off! Razz

At first I thought that TAT's style of choreography and the softness of Chopin's music would be too incongruous, but then I remembered that it was TAT who choreographed the Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra program. I'm anticipating a wonderful program this time round combining TAT's signature drama and, at the same time, attention to the nuances of the music, culminating in a gorgeous and elaborate footwork sequence. Wub

And Mao will be the one who makes it all happen! Cheering

I wish she had chosen Chopin's piece as her LP, Liebestraum is too slow, and I'd like to see a diferent EX program. Well, she's the one who must be happy with her programs, not me. Razz

Btw, do you think she'll stick to 3F-3Lo? That will make 3Lo as a solo jump in SP impossible. I'd rather see a 3F-3T. I'm thrilled about the possibility of 4 triples in the SP.

I agree with you Star85, the orchestra version is much better. I hope she uses it instead of the piano one.

I saw a translated version of this article http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2010/06/21/14.html

There's a line that says there is a chance that Mao may not have a main coach next season? Can someone please clarify this?
I'm a bit worried now. It seems like Mao's selection for a main coach hasn't been going smoothly.

Star85, thank you for the video links. I quite enjoyed the orchestra version of 'Liebestraume' too, surprisingly...but I'd prefer it more if it were a bit more faster. Maybe a mixture of strings and piano would be nice. I'm not sure which Lori would choose. I was sruprised she chose orchestra version for 'Clair de Lune', when I was almost sure she'd go with piano...

And so, Tat is doing the Chopin EX after all! Bit of a surprise maybe, but when you actually listen to the piece, it's a dramatic piece with alot of elements, so it's not hard for me to imagine Tat doing the choreography. Anyway, I'm glad she's doing the EX pro too. Smile

Btw, it said in one of our papers here that they are 'not sure if they will assign another coach' (「新たな専属コーチを置くかは未定という」). The nuance is so different from saying they 'haven't decided on another coach'. It sort of implies that Mao may go through the season with Tat as supervisor and Nagakubo for jumping coach only...This worries me a little. It may not be a bad idea, because it was more or less the same last season, plus this time Nagakubo is joining. But I wish somebody can be around Mao just to make sure her training goes okay everyday. She might push herself into too much sometimes, so I want somebody around to say 'Okay that's enough for today'...you know. I don't want her to get injured or something, that's what I fear the most. Neutral

edit:aoi already pointed out my worries right before me...the article I was referring to was a different one, but the one aoi linked to does say the same. 「メーンのコーチは未定で、今季は置かない可能性もある。」 Actually, they made it more clear that they may not hire a main coach for next season...

Can Mao still train with Shanetta even if TAT is no longer coaching her ?
I think Mao needs a coach. I hope she'll find someone ASAP.

I agree. She really needs a coach that will be with her all the time. Someone who can sit with her in K&C. Actually, I don't understand why Nakagubo can't be her head coach even if he coaches Akiko. Coaches can have more than one elite skater at one time. There's really something strange about Mao still not being able to find a coach after all this time. I think Pochinko may be right about Japanese coaches being wary of coaching Mao because of all the expectations for her next season. If that's the case, then I hope Mao can expand her search outside of Japan.

Thank you everybody for the updates santa !
I will make my opinions once I see the programs, being a young age and listening to classical music is kind of well... boring, but I will enjoy whatever Mao do, just like every other program she has done Smile

I agree Mao needs a coach. Mao herself also did say she needs a coach.

I have to agree about Nagakubo not being able to be her main coach. Nagakubo has been with Akiko for such a long time, even if Akiko says it's okay, I don't think he will be up to becoming Mao's main coach at the same time. I'm pretty sure at this point that JSF wanted Sato at first, but he rejected for some reason. That was most likely the start of all this delay. I hope they'd be willing to consider Honda if he hasn't said no yet. And if there won't be any main coach, I do hope Shanetta would remain in the team. I think we should keep in mind that Mao not having a major injury up till now is close to a miracle. Esp last season when she had to focus on her 3As, and maybe Shanetta watched out for her.

Btw, Mao will be performing her new EX in Dreams on Ice (25-27th)!

It sounds as if that's the best course of action right now. Although we haven't much information regarding the actual process behind the coach selection, it seems like it's not really getting anywhere so far as Japan is concerned
