I've read complaints on a certain forum that Mao's tango is too elegant and not Latin enough... I don't quite agree, Tango is 1) not a Latin dance, 2) does not have to be skated in a very passionate manner (unless your only familiarity with tango is the Moulin Rouge edition. Razz ) It's enough to watch a balroom dance competition, or come compulsory dances (Tango romantica) to see that there are many ways to dance tango, and it's actually one of the 'calmer' balroom dances (in comparison to cha-cha, jive, etc.).
TAT used to be a dance coach, so she probably was inspired more by the balroom/ice dance rather than the Broadway shows. Smile In fact, I watched a few tango CDs just now and some of the steps/gestures Mao is doing is very similar to those done by ice dance coupes in Tango romantica.
+100 Yep!
I love Mao's new spiral, it looks so flirty! Love it! Many Hearts

Not the best moment to take a photo, but is it only me or did Mao brought back her twist sit spin that she did at SA 2006? It looks like she's getting in the twist position
I loved that twisted spin!! Hope she does it in the new SP Panic!
Also love new spiral! It looks gorgeous Love Hearts
And inskate, thank you for your explanation of tango. Your comment is always very helpful to me I love you

Tango:
fell on 2A, popped 3Loop,3F double
Ballade:
3F pop
Mao said something like"I hope many year happniess".
It is translated to "百年好合,白头偕老" Laughing
Many people love Mao especially Ballade. They said she is just like a fairy

Oh, that's sad to hear. But let's be honest: Mao is still not finished with polishing her programs, and she's in the process of remastering her jumps. She doesn't have a main coach either. Also, she's busy with practice, ice shows and commercials. Unconscious

I'm not too worried. Knowing our Mao, she'll show a better performance next time.

And I think everyone here already said what I wanted to say. I thought it was just my imagination that she was faster, but people here were saying that she did become faster, which is a good thing because it gives her better flow and helps her cover the ice rink faster. She has deeper edges and I'm so amazed with her footwork. And that flexibility. Oh wow. She's at Mirai's level now. I don't think she can be a Caroline but who cares? Her layback was simply gorgeous. Her jumps are getting better, but they're not there yet. (Also, she skipped on some jumps so I'm just basing this from previous practice clips.)

This is just a fan video of the practice so I do not want to judge it prematurely. But so far, I like what I see. It's a romantic kind of tango, although she needs to act more with 'passion' and 'sensuality' to make this one even more solid. But like I said, it's just a fan video so Mao was basically just running through her program. I think the competition one would be different.

Basically, I'm just so in love with Mao right now. I can't wait to see the whole program! Cloud 9 Cloud 9 Cloud 9

Thanks for the reports!!

I think it's kind of like a habit now that Mao just messes up her jumps whenever she skates her competitive program for the first time with the audience. Falling on double axel sounds a bit surprising though, I guess it was also difficult for her to skate the new program under the Gala lightning. Yep, Sadly
I'm so glad to hear that Chinese people loved her Ballade #1 performance. Wub The whole show must be amazing, I can't wait to see it!!!!!

Someone from FSU who went to the show remarked that Mao also appeared tired during her performance. However, I also read from other reports that besides the jumps, everything else was wonderful. confused I really hope a video of the performance is posted soon. Razz

Thanks for the info. What Mao said is one of typical messages of congratulations in Chinese, isn't it?

Japanese media said Mao hadn't skated through whole program in last month because she concentrated on jumps. So she didn't have enough time to polish it, I think.
But as klarification said, she will get better next time. Smile

I feel so happy to know how Chinese people are kind to Mao. Thank you China! Many Hearts

I'm sure she wanted to show her best to the audience because she always wanna skate well under the pressure. Mushy Love However, Mao's skatig is not just jumps, so I hope the audience enjoyed her spirals and spins and everything! and like everybody said, I know Mao gets better gradually. Cheering

wow, i love the pictures. And even if some jumps didnīt go well i think is magnific that Mao gave such an amazing surprise to her fans and the Chinese public, she is so brave to perform her new SP for the first time so soon, and like some one said it is not just about the jumps.

I hope she doesnīt wear the new dress until the first competition or if she does , she keeps another one; just to imprese more .
and I just hope it to be elegant and simple at the same time, just like the magnific costume of the Chopin new exibition and with her neck without anyting.

Thanks for all the pics, and this video! Mao's flexibility in this spiral was great! The video was kind of far away, and kind of blurry, but to me, it looked like she had her leg pretty much perfectly straight up! My has gotten her leg up pretty high before, but this looks even better than ever!

Sad to here Mao missed some jumps, but I still can't wait to see the programs anyway! Mao never performs her programs the greatest on her first time. Hopefully, this will take care of that first performance problem that always gets her, so it will be much better at the first competition.

Can't wait to see the wedding!

A fancam version of the Tango SP is already up on NicoNico Douga, for those who have an account: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm11999546 Boogie
(big thanks to tomomo on the JFS forum and the uploader!)

Thanks for the link! Thumbs up!

The music lagged a few seconds and Mao was like a tiny dot on the screen, but it's better than nothing! cheers From what I could see, Mao covered more ice than in her older programs. This should look even better on a normal-sized rink, this one was tiny.

I loved the spins - the sit spins looked fab, too! And the final position on the plying spin really looked like the one from Skate America 2006! Swoon

Perhaps my favourite part was the footwork - I loved that the first part was skated on one foot, and then Mao had a moment to stop and play with the audience. Looked fab, and very tango! Mushy Love

Perhaps it would have looked even better if the music was edited so that once Mao completes the first part of the footwork the music would switch to that fast part... Because the second part of the steps looks faster and more flirty. Smile But maybe that's just an illusion created by the fact that the sound is a few second behind the video - I'll reserve my judgement until I see a better quality video. Smile

I wouldn't worry too much about jumps. It's still early, the rink was small and Mao hadn't had much time to practice jumps (during her run-through there were so many skaters that jumping could be dangerous). Plus, she skates faster now, so jumping on a smaller rink must have been even more scary. Smile
