Well said! Let's just be grateful we have anything at all... Razz

The music is just brilliant, and perfect for her! I can't wait to see this program performed! I have a feeling it will become a favorite of mine. cheers

Boogie Boogie Boogie

It's gorgeous! Can't wait to see the new costume! Mushy Love

I just didn't like the new camel spin, I prefer the inverted one that she does so well. Anyway, her moves are soft and elegant, and her layback spin is better than ever. Many Hearts

and is only my impresion, or she is faster? i really love the music, i think this will be my favourite SP or Mao.

It's difficult to judge from a home video (the lower framerate makes all the skaters seem faster), but that was my impression as well! It seems to me that Mao covers the ice much more quickly than ever. She also skates on deeper edges - as if tracing deep arches on the ice. That was really visible when the camera focused on Mao's skates. Her body was almost always angled towards the ice, not vertical. And she seemed to "run out of ice" a few times, which is typical of the skaters who have recently started skating much faster. I don't think it was the fault of the rink - it was small-ish, but looked bigger than the one at PIW. flower

She has definitely become more flexible! The Y spin, the back position on the layback, the position change into Biellman and the Biellman spin itself were WOW! . And look at the perfectly pointed toes in the Y spin!
It was a surprise, because I didn't expect Mao to work on this aspect of her skating. Her flexibility was already excellent last season. Smile

I think the new one isn't ready yet. As Tianrushui mentioned on the previous page, Mao brought 2 costumes to China: the Por Una Cabeza one and an orange one (maybe the one she used for her Caprice program once..?). She was probably too busy working on her jumps to think about new dresses yet! Smile

I really liked it! Laugh It seemed faster than usual, and I liked that there was no edge change (it always looks wonky on camel spins). Nice back position, too. I would like it even more if the arms were extended, or clasped above the back and raised (like in Nobunari's LP @ Nationals 2004).

I love the music! That layback into biellman was wow. She really does seem to become more flexible every year. I used to think although Mao is flexible, she's not as flexible as Mirai or Caroline, but now I'm not so sure. (or is it the obsessed Mao fan in me talking?) I'm so excited!

About the ceiling part, let's not be too hard on the cameraman! That person was super nice for posting it.

I'm secretly hoping the compact donut makes a return in at least one of her competitive programs this season. Too sweet!

I remember Mao talking about how her lower body was naturally very supple while her upper body (she specifically mentioned her "back") being just average in the flexibility department prior to working with Makino-san in one of the early Dream Lab clips. Weider does seem to put a lot of emphasis into stretches and flexibility training so we can presume that it helped Mao gradually become even more flexible than she was prior to teaming up with them. Swoon

As for CaroZ and Mirai...I personally don't know about overall flexibility, but I think Mao is more or less on their level now as far as the back position on the layback spin is concerned! Really impressive. cat

I love the new combo spin starting from a forward entrance and ending in the "Y" spin, but I wish she would do something prettier than the broken leg sit.

WOW! I agree, she seems to have more speed, and I noticed the deeper edges. That's fantastic news, especially since I was expecting her to focus on improving her jumps and not other things, or maybe training her jumps in "better" ways helped her improve in other areas? Not sure. Anyway, I agree with those of you who love the music choice. It's not too heavy or dark but it's catchy and powerful enough that the step sequence at the end will be stunning. I'm going to wait until a better video comes out to comment on the choreography, but I'm already liking what I'm seeing. And I love how Mao changes the way she uses her arms - and even her fingers! - when she's doing a tango vs. Chopin.

I saw her pose preparing to make fan spiral.
3A, 3L-3L, 3F seems to be interesting too. As
after Lipinsky, no one did it awesomely.

I like the last pose. Most of ending position,
the skater will raise up hand, but this is not.
I really want to see more story through this
tango.

I love the music even more now that I see her skating to it! I agree with you guys about her flexibility. Although she has always had great flexibility, I think it has improved a little more a little over the last few months.

ooh found the right thread! The first thing I really noticed too was the speed... and than she did a Y-spin and affraid cheers !! I think we can safely say Mao does the best Y-spin in the competition. I would normally give that to Czisny because she spins faster and has a gorgeous position, but I think Mao's overall position is better, from the anglle of her leg and back to her toes and the way she uses her free arm. Just breathtaking... And her layback is sick!! Even better than last year! I am loving this new and improved Mao! And as I said in the other thread, the footwork is looking fantastic (though we're missing a part of it but that's ok... Than I've got some more "surprises" to look forward to. Too sweet!

Yay! I love her fan spiral so much. I bet it's gotten even better.

I agree about the ending pose. I love it. I think it's perfect - it's unique and still gives a strong finish.

I think this is a fan-video from the press conference. At around 7:00, a Japanese journalist asked Plushenko about his opinion on Mao. He said,"Mao is a genius. For me, she is No.1 in the world." Someone from the press conference said that Yagudin said"I think so". But I didn't hear it from the video...
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/5-fZpbGBbJA/
p.s. The translators there really didn't do a good job. What a pity:-(

Thanks for the video tianrushui!

I heard what both of them said from the video.

Plushenko said at the end of his comment that she's a genius, and "For me, she's #1 in the world"...then while the translator was translating, Yagudin said "I actually have the same opinion"
Then Yagudin said "But the other one is also good" (lol...way to be diplomatic Yags! I loved how he referred to the "other one")
He said, it's hard to say..".one is more jumpy, and one is more light, a tricky question"
Then Plushy said "But I prefer...."- he said the end in Russian or Japanese- couldn't understand it, but the tone of voice seems to suggest that he prefers Mao? Just guessing here...

I love Plushy's direct way of speaking- he says what he wants to say, and doesn't care what people think!

Wub Cloud 9 flower

And Mao looks so awesome in that new SP, her moves flow so much, and amazing flexibility- how does she grow older and increase her flexibility?! Wow! Can't wait to see it!

She can't do an edge change in a spin with backward entrance, so on the right foot, this season. Or let's say, sure she could do but it's not a feature to get higher levels anymore! They changed many rules for the spins this year so that's really difficult to get level 4 in spin (maybe even for Stéphane Lips sealed ) That's why she's doing the edge change from the inside to the outside camel this year, I think Smile Thumbs up!

And I have to say, I'm just freakin out when I think about the upcoming season. All things around Mao are just perfekt right now (let's forget about the coach-thing): the music, the costumes, the choreographers, the jumps are on a better way.... Wub And I just Love Hearts the SP right now, or I know that I will love it! Love

And the best is: I bought traintickets to Paris yesterday, so I'm going to see Mao at Trophee Eric Bompard! Panic!

Mushy Love

Not the best moment to take a photo, but is it only me or did Mao brought back her twist sit spin that she did at SA 2006? It looks like she's getting in the twist position here! I loved that spin, it was my favorite sit spin of Mao's! Swoon

A new spiral! cheers I love it, it suits Tango better than fan spiral, IMHO! Wub

Oh my gosh! Look at how much Mao's split jump has improved since she debuted it in June!
And I love the new spiral- it definitely suits the Tango better and I think showcases her flexibility better than the fan spiral she's been doing for soooooo long!

Most of all, I like that Mao seems to have fun in those photos. She looks fierce on the spiral one! Smile

I've read complaints on a certain forum that Mao's tango is too elegant and not Latin enough... I don't quite agree, Tango is 1) not a Latin dance, 2) does not have to be skated in a very passionate manner (unless your only familiarity with tango is the Moulin Rouge edition. Razz ) It's enough to watch a ballroom dance competition, or some compulsory dances (Tango romantica) to see that there are many ways to dance tango, and it's actually one of the 'calmer' ballroom dances (in comparison to cha-cha, jive, etc.).
TAT used to be a dance coach, so she probably was inspired more by the ballroom/ice dance version of Tango rather than the Broadway shows. Smile In fact, I watched a few tango CDs just now and some of the steps/gestures Mao is doing are very similar to those done by ice dance coupes in Tango romantica.
