Actually I wondered what Taka-chan really meant too when I was translating it. Without knowing the context, I translated it literally. First thing came to my mind was ‘Knight Taka escorted lady Mao all the way from Nagoya to Shin-Yokohama.” Because Shizuka puts LOL after quoting Taka-chan, the way he said it probably sounded funny. I even thought it may be implying ‘Thank you for sharing ice time with her.’ I didn’t care Mao-Taka fantasy very much before. But, when I started thinking about it, it’s fun. Razz

Of course it's fun! Too sweet!

Hmm. So even Shizuka thought it sounded funny? That's comforting to know.

Yes, we have a couple of rinks, though I'm afraid I haven't set foot on the ice in awhile. I tend to fall a lot. Laughing Are you from Alaska too?

Sorry for getting off-topic here, as this isn't exactly Mao news... Blame Taka-Chan and his enigmatic comments, I guess. Razz

Lol! It's okay! I'm sure we'll be getting back to the Mao topic as soon as the NHK Trophy competition comes.

No I don't live in Alaska. I've actually moved a lot. From what I see, huge cities like New York City, Los Angeles, etc. have ice rinks (of course), but in hot places like Florida, Texas, Louisiana, not as much, even in big cities. You'll probably find around one. At least I think so.

Trust me. I fall a LOOOOOOTTTTTTTT. I wish to know how to do some basics at least!

Sorry! It was something about your question that made me wonder if you were from here. It wouldn't be the first time I've misunderstood something, lol...

Loathe though I am to admit it, we probably we have hockey to thank for our ice rinks up here. It's really popular up here. (Not with me, though.)

Part of my problem is I'm super-shy, so it's hard for me to get out there and practice skating in front of anyone (particularly when I am very bad at it!). In the winter we have a lake we can walk to from our house, but the ice isn't always in good condition for skating.

But I guess I'm content to watch Mao and the others who know what they're doing... Laugh

And yes, it's hard when there's so little news...but I'm sure that means Mao is working hard. I can't wait for the NHK Trophy! cheers

I think you should be fearless and just skate, skate, skate. Lol! I think it would be nice to own some skates at least

I'm sure she's practicing everyday, but taking more breaks than the years past. I can't wait until she gets her original jumps back! No matter how long it'll take!

These upcoming competitions might be difficult for us to watch. Of course we can hope for the best, but I know from watching others struggle with this how difficult it is to rework technique. But I'd much, much rather she face the music now than just keep going with the problems she had. The missing Lutz in particular just gave too much fuel to her critics, and it hurt her scores. I have a good feeling about the direction she's going in—reworking jumps, new coach, a little more rest (hopefully!), and of course that classic Mao attitude which makes it all come together. Many Hearts

(And thanks for the pep talk, lol. But we can't all be as brave as Mao... Razz)

That's what I was thinking. Every single time before she jumps, you just have this certain feeling! Lol! I don't know a lot about figure skating, but habits, learning new technique, and making sure it's just instinct later is pretty hard to do with almost anything in life. I was just watching a video compilation of her jumps, and wow! She can go high with great width if she skates fast before the take off. I notice little things, but I really think she can get it back. I hope not too many people have expectations next Saturday. Wow! It's already next Saturday! This forum will be flooding with fans and updates next Saturday!

Neither Mai nor Mao Asada use any kind of SNS - Twitter, Facebook nor Mixi (Japanese SNS).
It seems some people have accounts named "Mao Asada" or something on the web, but that's not true Mao. No

well that's to bad, but if you look at it in the positive way. there are always some news about mao or practice clips, unlike skaters from countries where news about there skaters isn't some thing one gets on daily basis.

does anyone know what mao said in hr interview after JO, because mao said something that made the audience laugh, I just didn't understan d what it was.... it wasn't at the conference but a very short interview where they asked daisuke a few questiens and mao afterwards.

Thank you!! I wouldn't ask anyone to translate the whole thing because it's so long, but our dear Japanese speakers, are there important/interesting things that are said (especially in the interviews with Mao or Sato)?

It looked like they were working on edges in one part of the video Thumbs up!

Really quick summary:
Like a Star @ heaven Mao discusses how she wanted to rework her jumps after feeling that she doesn't have as much speed or snap to them compared to previous seasons
Like a Star @ heaven A quick analysis on Mao's rotational speed on her jumps, and how it was slightly slower during 09-10
Like a Star @ heaven How Mao adopted a "deep entrance" to her jumps during 09-10 that sacrificed speed and flow because she was worried about DGs and making mistakes Sad
Like a Star @ heaven She made it a top priority with Coach Sato to adopt a jumping technique that isn't as strained and forced
Like a Star @ heaven Mao works on her basic skating and edges every day now; talks about how she's starting to get the gist of her new technique

I hope the rest of the program (Dai, Yuzuru, Kanako) will be uploaded soon as well. Yep!

Thanks for the news update! It was great to see Mao training her speed and edges in the clip. I can't believe the event is next week! I hope Mao gets her flip stable. The lutz may take a longer time but as long as her flip becomes stable, I think she'll be fine.

Mao said, JO 2010 is her first competition for 20 year-old and it is exactly hard.
Audience laughed because they agreed that being 20 made life harder than when
they were not 20, still children.
(20 is the first year to be adult in Japanese context.)

i think she is also listening to her coach, who is emphasizing basic skating skills for said perfection. thats what coaches do. she might desire perfection and not know how to obtain it.

Much thanks for the video links! Thank you!

Putting in my two cents on Mao's goals and plans this season (further on till Sochi).

Mao wanted to re-build and get back at least to her old jumping techniques back when she was still in her first few senior years, it'll take her time and would mean a long span of training, time, and work process.

I am confident and glad that she is in good hands under Sato.
Sato emphasises on speed, flow, beautiful basics, and fluid skating more than
anything, so Mao is in the right track. I've always admired Mao for her continuous
desire to further on improve her skating, and for aiming for perfection each and
every season.

Watching those two practice video clips, I ponder on a lot of things and can't
help but see 2 things: 1) Mao is really working hard now and says she haven't
felt her thighs and muscles hurt so much after that rigid skating training she's
been doing with Sato. Going round in circles skating, and practicing spinning
with more speed and faster rotations. Skating with flow and understanding the
connection of those two important factors to her jumps, to be able to make her
jumps more stronger and fluid from take-off to landing, with proper speed in
her rotations and smooth flow on her landings. 2) Mao really is determined and
her coach will surely help her in achieving her goals. I have faith in Sato now
and hopes that all these things he plans to teach and make Mao do will really
be fruitful for her improvement.

Just like what Honda San and Yaginuma San stated, it's brave enough being able to come up with that crucial decision to go back, and start from scratch all over again. What is even more amazing about Mao is her, doing it, the will to improve, and the intentions she has in overcoming the hardships she may encounter in the process. Unfortunately that also means Mao will have to work harder than she ever did. It would also mean I have to bear reading and hearing her critics attacks on her consistencies and strategies. (I get upset lately whenever I read figure skating blogs, and column news already attacking Mao's inconsistency and only have negative words for her will to correct and improve her jumps, after her performance in the last JO competition. More so it also irked me that critics spoke as if Mao, attempting a full arsenal of triples in one program is a no-no!) But never mind, I'm in this with Mao and expect not quite a lot of good things from her detractors, than them, praising her for all her efforts, what else is new? If it would mean Mao's success in the long run, I'd rather see her struggling now, than watch her cramming in Sochi Olympic year. It will surely be a tough road for her this time. She may need to struggle and suffer, but that is Mao, thats what she is, and what she aims for and what she wants. I believe Mao will reap wonderful things in the end, after all these. We just have to keep in our minds that "Nothing worthwhile ever came easy.", and put our faith in both Mao and her coach.

Go, Mao! Woot!

You have a good point. I mean, any type of news will receive a lot of talk, so it's pretty normal. I'm sure Kim Yu-na will do well with her brand new coach, and she and Mao will progress towards their own goals. I'm just glad that we have people who gives us so many updates on Mao at least. Lol!
