In the event that two or more skaters have the same combined score, the skater with the better free skate score will be given the higher placement. study

1 Nobunari ODA JPN 86.59 48.06 38.53 8.00 7.21 7.93 7.68 7.71 0.00 #2
2 Patrick CHAN CAN 85.59 43.77 41.82 8.54 8.21 8.14 8.36 8.57 0.00 #4
3 Daisuke TAKAHASHI JPN 82.57 40.57 42.00 8.43 8.07 8.43 8.36 8.71 0.00 #5
4 Takahiko KOZUKA JPN 77.90 39.43 38.47 7.89 7.54 7.50 7.68 7.86 0.00 #6
5 Tomas VERNER CZE 65.37 28.76 36.61 7.39 7.11 7.07 7.61 7.43 0.00 #3
6 Florent AMODIO FRA 61.64 28.38 33.26 6.71 6.29 6.61 6.79 6.86 0.00 #1

Top 4 were all clean although Dai had a slight bobble on his steps and Kozu's jump elements weren't as secure today. Both Tono and Patty landed the quad; Tono did the 4T-3T while Patty botched the 4T-3T to a solo 4T and 3F-3T so the judges probably deemed Patty's 4T as not having the required steps preceding it.

Ladies are next! cat

...and the jumbotron just aired Mao's Sutona ad. Shocked

I am so sad that Taka choose to play so safe in the SP. Now I ask if he can still medal Question Question Question

Dai had the advantage of a higher PCS and executed better his elements but he also disappointed me.

Wow for Oda! 4T-3T! great!

Wow again for Adelina ! 3lz-3lo! I fear for Mao's future No No santa

Wow for Oda! 4T-3T! great!
Kozu never included the quad in his SP layout though and Dai hasn't planned one in his SP for years too.
They both skated without any major mistakes to stay in contention for a medal and that's fine by me. Yep!

We still have the free skate! Thumbs up!

Just finished watching Men's SP.

Nobu's 4T-3T was superb!! Love Hearts Love Hearts Love Hearts
I do hope he will keep up the momentum tomorrow too.

I think Taka-chan has a good chance of finishing on the podium, because his LP is such a good program and much, much better than his SP and also he will not skate last. Skating after three skaters exceeding 80 marks in a row must have made him nervous, I guess.

Dai said in the interview after the performance that he feels bad that he's got such a high score for such a performance. LOL

Ladies SP Result:
1 Alissa CZISNY USA 63.76 33.62 30.14 7.46 7.29 7.64 7.57 7.71 0.00 #5
2 Carolina KOSTNER ITA 62.13 31.53 30.60 7.61 7.29 7.71 7.75 7.89 0.00 #4
3 Kanako MURAKAMI JPN 61.47 33.04 28.43 7.04 6.82 7.39 7.07 7.21 0.00 #3
4 Akiko SUZUKI JPN 58.26 30.06 28.20 7.07 6.71 7.18 7.07 7.21 0.00 #2
5 Miki ANDO JPN 50.45 22.67 28.78 7.32 6.89 7.07 7.36 7.32 1.00 #6
6 Rachael FLATT USA 45.19 19.88 25.31 6.36 6.14 6.29 6.46 6.39 0.00 #1

Alissa in first, CaroK second, Kanako third. Shocked
Both CaroK and Kanako landed the 3T-3T.

Miki fell on her 3F and messed up the flying sit, so that's a good chunk of points lost (and a possible UR on the second 3Lo as usual).
On the bright side, her PCS went up...it's worth noting that all three of the Japanese ladies landed in the 28s for their PCS. Interesting. cyclops

ETA: Mao's Sutona ad pops up on the screen yet again. Razz

How can Alissa's TES be higher than Caro and Kanako's?
I think Miki will recover in FS along with Akiko, they are wayyyy better than Kanako.

Spin levels and GoEs? Either that, or the judges pulled the usual UR card on the second 3T for CaroK (I don't think they did for Kanako judging by her TES, but she might have lost a level on the layback...have to check videos again).Sweatdrop

I think 1st place is going to be between the top 4 - Miki is far too behind to have a legitimate chance at winning unless the top 4 all bomb.

Alissa is the best spinner, no doubt. Anyway I think is just to high her score, but what do I know Sweatdrop

Have you seen Aliona's dress?? Shocked It doesn't look bad when she skates, but when she stands it looks like her underwear shines through her costume. Gorgeous program though Wink

Thanks for the videos everyone! flower

The ladies JGPF was such a good competition! There's so many talented juniors right now. The years leading to Sochi will definitely be interesting. Just some thoughts after watching the FS. ZiJun reminds me of a young Mao, but Adelina reminds me of a more mature Mao. I think it's probably due to the fact they share TAT as choreographer, because I was definitely seeing shades of Mao in her step sequences. She was even wearing a lavender dress! I am not sure why Liza got an edge call for her flip because it looked fine to me. Her jumps are lovely and I love how she extends her free leg on the landings. I do think in overall polish, Adelina edges her a bit for now. But that could change in the future and Liza has better technique, so that'll help her out in the future.
On a last note, this was my first time seeing Risa Shoji and I really liked her program. I can't believe she's a junior. She's skates with far more maturity than Kanako. There's a certain depth in her interpretation of the music that I usually don't see in juniors. Her jumps are okay, although she doesn't get as much height on them as the others. But it'll be interesting to see how she develops in the future.

I saw the FPs for junior ladies last night. It was really a competition worthwhile watching! This generation is one hell of a group of talents. I personally liked Liza and Zijun the most, but Adelina winning was solid and correct. She does have the best jumps and is well balanced in everything overall. I think her FP was better than her SP even with the misses. I've almost never seen any junior skater as close to being perfected as her. But I still think Liza and Zijun has lots of potential, so if they improve what needs to be improved, They'll catch up to Adelina soon.

As for Risa...she's good, but I don't really find anything that much special in her skating yet compared to Adelina, Liza and Zijun. I liked her FP much more than her SP. Her SP was pretty good, but in a sense the pro was too mature for her, so I couldn't see feel the energy and the shine you see in a good junior skater. The FP was more like her I think, though it was again a bit too mature for my taste too. But I think she's still in search of her own style of course, so when she finds it, I'm looking forward to how it turns out.

Senior SPs were a bit enigmatic to me, compared to juniors. The mens' results were mostly what I had predicted after seeing their performances, so I didn't have much of a problem with that. I'm so sorry that Dai doesn't seem to be in his best shape, but Nobu succeeding a 4-3 with quite good quality knocked me out totally! Shizuka said in the broadcast that all he has to be careful of are 'careless mistakes', and we all know what that means, huh? Pattie's quads are becoming stable and there's been progress in his 3As I guess...still, Nobu has much better quality jumps. Dai was kind of saved by PCS, but I think he deserved it. He really does deliver even with mistakes, plus he's still the only one who can skate with his head spinning around like Linda Blair in the 'Exorcist' and I think that's something! Takahiko and Amodio were too tense. Guess they need more experience in large competitions like this. Tomas was doing fine until that one big miss, and it proved again how risky SPs are in every element.

As for ladies, I personally thought Kanako and Akiko performed best overall, and if not TES, they deserved a bit higher PCS...esp Akiko. I'm relieved that Kostner got high scores doing a 3-3 this time, she did fairly well. But I just can't get to like her SP for this season...mainly because the way the music is edited, esp the end. Czisny wasn't all that better than Kostner IMO, but her spins really made a difference this time. We've been seeing so many slow, dull spins this season mostly because of the rule changes, but Czisny's spins were just stunning! Plus she pretty much has gotten rid of her bad habits in jumps, so I guess she did deserve 1st place afterall...although it did come as a surprise to me. But I guess, in her case, everything depends on how her FP works out. She kind of lacks stamina, so I'm not sure if she can hang on to 1st place. Oh and Flatt...I think the judges finally gave her the scores she really deserved this time. I do feel sorry for her, but there really was nothing much to see in her performance last night. She didn't even have her usual energy, which IMO was the only thing which kept her in the top ladies' group. I'm convinced once again that it's her who really needs to reform not only her jumps, but spins and steps as well from scratch. I'm only guessing here, but simply feel that she's not practicing hard enough as the other girls. I know I'm being a bit harsh on her, but it's like she's skating ignoring all the aesthetic artistic factors in the sport. She may not have fallen like Miki did, but still Miki is much more beautiful to see. Flatt has to face all her problems seriously after this competition if she intends to continue competing.

Well, I'll be watching the FP broadcast this evening...since Flatt is out of the picture now, one of my nightmare scenarios for this competition won't be happening. But, Pattie hasn't missed a jump so far, and Nobu's FP isn't as good as his SP, so my other nightmare ending might still happen. I hope Dai can nail all his jumps and make the middle of the podium. Either Dai or Nobu winning is fine with me! It would be great if Takahiko can make 3rd, but I'm not sure he's ready for that yet. He mentioned that he's working on his expressions alot before the competition yesterday, but tension and shyness still keeps getting in his way. Yep, Sadly

He did deserve the win today. That I can deal with.
That said, an 87 in PCS and 9 for IN? No thanks. Commentator
Christy Krall constantly talking about the judges in the K&C certainly isn't helping my impression of them

Congrats to Tono and Kozu for making the podium!

Yes, I think in overall package, Adelina is the best out of them for now. However, I think Liza has better technique on her jumps. With more consistency and polish, I think she'll catch up to Adelina soon and that's when it'll get very interesting. My personal favorite is ZiJun. She hasn't matched the level of jump difficulty of the Russian wunderbabies but I've heard they are working on getting a 3-3. I hope she'll develop gradually like Lu Chen and become China's next skating star. As for Risa, I like her style very much. I am someone who prefers mature choreography over the joyful yet bit juniorish style. I am more concerned about her technique because she's quite prone to URs. I also heard she idolizes Shizuka. She does remind me a little of Shizuka, so perhaps that could be a good sign.

ETA: Shocked Alyssa actually skated clean and won! I can't believe I am seeing Alyssa and Carolina (two well-known headcases) being 1-2 here. And Patrick chan didn't fall? Is the world coming to an end?
