I got wind from 2ch that the Japanese women were all on the practice rink. cheers
All three did run-throughs of their sp, but Miki and Mao did not do any jumping.
And it also seems that Mao has changed a lot of the transitions and step sequence in her long.

I guess we would never find that out. Even if so, Dai would probabaly never admit it cause the accident really made Takahiko feel guilty and down at the time. I even read in some Japanese article that our dear Pattie, whom we know for his bad attitude towards other skaters, had tried to comfort Takahiko by telling him about the time he crashed into Adam, but those things happen sometimes and there only accidents so he shouldn't go on feeling bad about it. Hmm...maybe Pattie is a nice guy when he's not talking to the media? Razz But I prefer how Takahiko took the crashing incident seriously, and felt bad towards Dai. Maybe as an athlete, he should've not let it bother him and focus only on his performance...That's what Pattie did after crashing into Adam, which led him to win in that competiton. But Takahiko can't be like him. Takahiko is too nice a guy to let go of his mistakes even if it was just an accident. That's the person he is, and I respect that even though it might have been one of the reasons he couldn't win in that competition. Yep, Sadly

But Dai's coach Nagamitsu said in an interview before Nats, when asked by the press what she hopes/wishes the most right then, 'I wish for the (good conditioned) Dai before the accident'. So, I think that pretty much tells us that the influence of the crash hadn't been gone at least by Nats. There has been no news reporting how exactly he had been injured from a medical point of view, but many fans think that he must have suffered a certain amount of pain from it. Yep, Sadly

Btw, I've noticed ddmm that you're about the only person not complaining about Dai's mustache...are you in favor of it? Laughing If you are, try imagining him skating his mambo SP with it...it's going to make him look totally like some tacky gigolo! Hell, no!

Thank you Hazelq and Pochipota.

I agree with you PP. His condition might be worse than what we see but we'll never know. I think Dai will never mention it so that Taka does not get worry about. They're a bunch of nice people. Many Hearts

Moustache ? Good point and well noticed Laughing

Thank you for the info, links, maowataiyo and the links, kirarkira! Razz cheers

Like a Star @ heaven http://www.47news.jp/CN/201102/CN2011021701000527.html

The above article reports that Mao landed 3A and 3-3 at practice today. She seems to be in good shape, though, honestly, Mao seems to always do well on the first day of practice... Everything comes down to her condition in the morning of the competition. It usually seems to be the best indicator.

I read from the twitter updates from the user (link posted earlier by Dani-chan) that Mao's FS choreography was altered. I didn't think much of it because she often visits Lori Nichol after Nationals to make final adjustments in preparation for Worlds. Until I read this article:

Like a Star @ heaven http://sankei.jp.msn.com/sports/news/110217/oth11021718020007-n1.htm

Quote :
浅田真央「点数は意識しない。自分のやるべきことを、どれだけできるか。フリーはたくさん変えて、全日本のときとは全然違うプログラムになっている」

She mentioned that they made a lot of changes with the free program, that it has become an entirely different program compared to the one at Nationals. Looking forward to see Liebestraum again! flower

Paraphrasing again here; not literal translation. Will need our fluent Japanese speakers to help out if you guys want a more faithful version. Embarassed

She says she's not focusing on the scores but only on how much (to what extent) would she be able to complete what she could do.

My interpretation: I think Mao is referring to the things she learned and trained with Sato-sensei, probably including her basic skating skills, new jump techniques, the lutz and the salchow, etc. As Sato-sensei mentioned in the beginning of the season, she needs the competition to confirm her training progress. To see, under the pressure, how well could she apply her new-learned techniques and execute them.

Mao also emphasized in recent interviews that she is not aiming for a consecutive World title.

Here: http://www.fnn-news.com/news/headlines/articles/CONN00193156.html

Quote :
今は本当に、連覇のことは全然考えていなくて、1つひとつの試合を、自分のやるべきことをしっかりやるだけだと思っています

I wish that the media will just stop hyping up the rivalry because there is none, technically. Fuji TV's promotions sometimes just really puts me off. They do a documentary on Mao after nationals, and quoted her from an interview nearly half a year ago, when she did mention that her goal at 20yr old is to win Worlds consecutively. NONETHELESS, she also answered one of the reporters at the Nationals press conference in Dec that she isn't really thinking about anymore. Before leaving for Taipei; at the airport, she SPECIFICALLY stated that it is no longer her goal. Now, at practice today, she repeated the same thing in different words.

But I thought you liked his hair this way? Isn't it similar to his hairstyle in your avatar?

Still...his hair accompanied by his mustashe, made someone twitter this:

From http://twitpic.com/40fgkz

It's a parody of a Japanese 1000yen bill and the real thing is this:

The man in the real bill is Hideyo Noguchi who is one of the most respected figures (bacteriologist) in Japanese medical history who discovered the agent of syphilis as the cause of progressive paralytic disease in 1911.

Is there a resemblance here? If so, maybe the mustache and hair would make his mambo look academically intelligent, and that 'Ooooh!' part where he poses, may be interpreted as Noguchi's joy in succeeding in discovering the syphilis agent. Laugh

Btw, Takahiko's quads were reported not to be in good shape either according to official practice... pale I have to admit that with Dai and Takahiko who've been jumping quads for years not being able to stabilize them, Pattie is a genius in mastering and stabilizing his quads in such a short period. I do hope though that Dai would win Worlds, if not 4CC...but it'll be tough to beat Pattie with no quad in his SP and only a shaky one in FP. I prefer Dai's quads to Pattie's, because I think Dai has a bit more height and there's a kind of flexibility in it. But unless he can succeed a perfect quad, the judges are probabaly going to hand out more GOEs to Pattie's quads. And we all know how the judges have been pouring out PCS for Pattie this season. I still think Dai's presentation abilities, appeals and pros are much better than Pattie's. Pattie has become a good skater which even I can obviously see at this point, but his performances however good they are in techs, do not have the level of excitement which Dai has. He's moved me so many times with his performances up till now, I really wish he can make the middle of the podium at Worlds. Mushy Love

This is so exciting! I can't wait to see the new version of Liebestraum! Boogie Thanks snowdrowps for the translations. I am curious to know if Mao is going to include a 3-3 in the LP. If she does, will she leave out one 3A? Personally, I prefer her to see her 3-3 back than another 3A.
And I agree with you about the media. I wish they stop focusing so much on scores and rivalry. They contribute to the misleading assumptions of Mao held by some non-fans. In a previous interview, I remember Mao placed performing having a good/clean performance as her first priority and things like scores come way after.

I don't think Mao practiced 3-3s today; my bad, I probably assumed that "triple jump combination" means 3-3. Sweatdrop the triple jump combination probably was the 3F-2L in the clips. Razz

Mao's both 3As are STILL underrotated; though she seems to jump more surely and confidently. Mao adjusted her entry to the jump this season and it became harder to spot exactly how much she underrotated the jump because she covers the ice like a curve. They look very much like the ones she landed at practices at Nationals.

Yes, aoi88, I am hoping that she'll go for a good solid 3-3 instead of a second 3A too. She just isn't there yet. The ratified 3A in the SP at nationals gave her a bit of a false hope, IMHO. The judging was generous, especially if you compare it to the 3As she did at the olympics. THOSE 3As were clean.

But knowing Mao, I'm pretty sure we will be seeing 2 3A and if her condition is good enough, a 3-3 as well in this competition

GOOOO, Mao!! Many Hearts

What I notice is that Mao's 3As now seem to cover a little more ice but they have less height. The way she approach them remind me of Yukari's minus the leg wrap, so it's more aesthetically pleasing. I'm not sure which one I like better because the ones she did at the Olympics had more height but little flow coming out. Now she has less height but more flow. However, I do think the previous approach was too straining for Mao. Although she may still have UR issues with the new approach, it seems less taxing on her body.

Yes! Mao's 3A now seems less 'forced', more natural now.

Like a Star @ heaven http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20110217-OHT1T00223.htm

To everyone who posted that they hope that Mao will go for 2-3combo, you've got your wish!! The new FS jump layout will include a 2-3 after the half-way point, to garner more points. cheers Changes are also made in the transitions and step sequence.

The article didn't specify what the jumps were but I'm guessing 2A-3T. Cool

And this article:

Like a Star @ heaven http://www.jiji.com/jc/c?g=spo_30&k=2011021700975

mentions that Mao practiced 3A and 3-3 after her SP runthrough. Hmmm, maybe a 3-3 in the SP after all? Razz Looks like it might be 3F-3L.

Thanks for the links! Smile cheers

I was looking forward for the 3-3 jump in her SP (even got excited when I read she practiced one haha - but then she didn't! Crying or Very sad)

I don't know why -
But a 3-3 seems more fit on Mao!
I loved her layout in 2008 worlds! Neutral

Am already nervous now!
Looking forward for the changes she made!!!!! Smile
Best of luck Mao! Smile

But I thought you liked his hair this way? Isn't it similar to his hairstyle in your avatar?

Muahahahahahahahahahaha LMAO Laugh Laugh

Nice pics !!! Pochi, you're so good at finding really hilarious pics.

Maybe we'll soon see a new version of 1000yen bill with Dai doing the 'oooh!' pose !

No Dai's hair is not the same as in my avatar. The one he has now is much more curly and on one side....way too much. My avatar one is more natural............well anyhow, I can forgive my Dai! ROTFLMAO

For Patie, I'll say we'll have to see next year. His quad is good this year but we'll have to see how long it will last. I think that ISU is already set to give gold to Patie this year. In a recent interview, Cinquanta mentioned that he wants to make rooms for many skaters. BTW, Hanyu's quad is looking good too.

OH MY GOD lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!

I doubt Mao is planning a 3f-3lo in sp, then she should go for 3 lutz. I don't think she is ready. So 3lo-3lo looks more possible.
Mao's 3a is looking good, I can't wait to see Mao's skating!!! Go Mao!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many Hearts Cheering

yes I think if mao is going to do a 3-3 combo in 4cc it will be in the sp, and later on at worlds maybe upgrade to a 3f-3lo at the half way mark... but that is only what i am guessing still don't know for sure...anyway as long as mao feels confident in herselff nothing can stop her, and i really look forward to see the changes mao is planning, but i would really love to know if it was nobou or kumiko who changedher programms and why???

I think it'd be great if it were Kumiko Sato who made the changes to her program. Her daughter Yuka did a great job with Alyssa's LP this season. Perhaps it runs in the family. Yep! I think the changes were probably made to accomodate the changes in her layout since Nationals. Although I really like her LP this season, I feel the choreography could be improved to add to the overal impact of the program. Either way, I'm really excited to see the changes.

Thank you for all the updates snowdrops, kirakira & MikiAndoFan! Her jumps look great! I can't wait to watch her LP.

It says in the article below provided by snowdrops that Lori went over to Japan and made the necessary changes. I'm thinking Lori and Mao worked it out to make it more efficient for her to get those bonus points after the halfway mark. I think I read somewhere that on average, a ladies skater does 4 jumps after the 2 minute mark, but Miki does 5.
